While I've made every attempt to map controllers correctly by default you may find the mappings for your specific controller are not correct - in which case you'll need to map them manually.
There is currently an OPT-IN BETA running which has a more advanced control mapping system which should support your controllers. I can't say 100% that they will work as I don't have any to test with but every other joystick seems to be working.
To Opt-in to the BETA...
1. Right click on the game in your Steam library
2. Select "Properties"
3. On the new window choose "BETAS"
4. Select "joystickmapping - New Control Mapper"
5. Leave the access code box blank and you should get the update.
6. Start the game and go into the Control Settings area and you should see the new mapper.
Sorry, bit of confusion there. :D
I have an X-55 HOTAS which definitely does work, and I know there is a lot of people using all kinds of sticks and throttles, right back to a Microsoft Sidewinder 2 Force Feedback, that are all working.
However, I don't have a turtle beach velocity one so I can't say for 100% that that specific stick will work - which was what I was referring too. It should work, and I can't see any reason why it wouldn't but you just never know...
Jim have you got any time schedule for completing the campaign mode?
No worries - forums are not always easy to get meaning across :)
I don't have anything solid in terms of time scale for the campaign system. 1st point of call is expending the Random Mission generator to include all the necessary parts for the game in general e.g. Enemy Aircraft, A.I. pilots, etc
Once that is done and I've got a few different terrains done then I'll be able to do the 1st stage of the campaign system which will probably be something like a Tour of Duty string of missions so that I can get the saving systems etc sorted and in place.
Then, when that's all working, I'll be able to see how much of an Enemy Engaged / JSF style campaign I can realistically achieve.
Update: I messed around with the ingame mapping and have a some control, I will need to play with sensitivity for a while but I think it will work.
Sorry for the confusion - that BETA was removed a while ago as all the new control settings are now in the main branch.
Let me know how you get on.
There are some extra sensitivity settings in the Game Settings menu that should allow you to fine tune the flight model.
That's one thing I'm waiting on a demo to test.
Quick tip for any Steam user - if a game doesn't have a demo you can always buy it, test it for not more than 2 hours and if you don't like it - return it and you will be refunded. You can always but it later.
One downside - if you struggle with setting up your controls you may not have enough time to properly test it. Though if you know what you're doing you should be able to set the controls in few minutes.
