Dynamic Mission Soundtrack
Playing this game has brought me back to my childhood playing Novalogic games like the Comanche series, a big one of those being Comanche Gold, and the biggest thing that will always stick with me was the AMAZING digital soundtrack. Every mission had it's own soundtrack that changed depending on whether the player was in flight, under attack, or in combat. It had a win/lose track, and the Main Menu music was chef's kiss. It's such a small thing that I'm sure isn't at the top of the development list and there is already a track selection option, but maybe there is a way to select certain tracks that play at certain times during the mission? I'd love to be able to add the MIDI files from Comanche Gold into the game. With the procedural mission generation it will really keep me coming back again and again.
Here is a collection of the soundtrack for anyone that's never experienced it before.

Edit-After reading through some of the posts I see you're a Comanche fan too Jimmy, I hope you share the same sentiment LOL

Oh Yea!! I wonder if those Midi files are on the disk as midi files or in some library.

Sometimes I will turn off the music in HGDEX and play a collection on Amazon of war movie themes in the background. Love it when "Ride of the Valkyries" comes on!! The triplet horn riffs in the Patton theme great for sniping runs!

The creator of the video converted the MIDI files over to MP3, and you can download them directly from the video. Because there is a MIDI for different parts of the mission you have to piece together the full song from the list.

I did actually think of whether dynamic music was possible using digital files. the iMuse system used in X-Wing was able to mix between different tracks seamlessly depending on the action on screen.

It might be possible to do something similar - basically you'd have low, medium and high intensity versions of the same track and you'd mix between them depending on the on-screen action - I think Need For Speed 2 did this as well.

It's obviously a lot more work to do it but it's still a very under used system that seems to have fallen out of favor - I'd love to have a go at doing it. :steamsunny:

And yes, Comanche was one of my favorite games and you'll see a lot of it influence from it in this game too.

To me a soundtrack makes a game. Some of the most memorable games to me had an amazing soundtrack, Comanche Gold, Test Drive Offroad 3, Age of Mythology, Red Alert those games I will always remember. You could have a HORRIBLE game and have a fantastic soundtrack and people will STILL remember and play it for the soundtrack.
