I Appreciate your responses thankyou Ill give it a look!
Another thing that maybe you could help me with was the option to freelook, am I able to achieve this with say holding Alt+mouse use? Or is this not possible without VR?
Thanks for your time :)
I just had a quick look because I've only used TrackIR so far (and a gamepad once or twice), but from what I can see, there is currently no option to temporarily toggle mouse free look, sorry. :\
Would you recommend a TrackIR for this game and similar games?
Thankyou for the clarity though I thought I was just being daft
If you know you are going to play a lot of racing/driving sims and flight sims, then yes (assuming you can and are willing to afford it). The ArmA series from ArmA 2 onwards also supports TrackIR for looking around and zooming, which is neat since the head movement is independent from aiming and moving the body!
These days I mainly use it for racing simulations like Automobilista 2, though I originally got my TrackIR 4 unit mainly for flight sims like IL-2, Rise of Flight and Lock On back in the day. But as I spent less and less time with flight sims due to several reasons (one of them being that they became too hardcore and time-consuming for my liking, not to mention the steep cost involved), I found myself using it for racing games and stuff like Euro / American Truck Simulator where it is also quite useful.
It does take a bit of getting used to having to turn your head if you want to look in a certain direction, but after a short bit of practice and some finetuning of the software you won't want to miss it and it becomes second nature. It's very cool especially for games like HGDEX since you can slave the Apache and Viper guns to the IHADSS - in other words, aim (and shoot) simply by looking at things. As in real life, this isn't quite as accurate as aiming with the targeting pod, of course, but it's very cool nonetheless.
At this point I'm not sure the older v4 units are still available, but I would recommend getting a TrackIR 5 unit anyway due to the higher update frequence. I've personally only used the v4 but it definitely feels more choppy than videos I have seen of the v5 in action.
Wow great information thankyou very much man. Watching the videos of them being used in game look brilliant, I want one now haha.
IHADSS doesn't use the targeting pod controls; instead it just uses the normal camera input.
If you are limited to keyboard and mouse it might be tricky to find an axis to bind this to... Do you happen to have a gamepad you could use? The game was specifically designed to be accessible even with a standard gamepad, and you could use mouse and keyboard on top of the gamepad controls (i.e. mouse for free look or targeting pod).
Hi!
You'll need to bind controls for moving the camera around. Usually this would be the mouse (although you can also map keyboard or joystick axis).
IHADSS slaves the targeting pod to your helmet sight so when IHADSS is active you cannot move the targeting pod via the usual controls.
In your case you are already using the mouse to fly so you'll need to setup keyboard commands to look around. (Rotate View X & Rotate View Y)
I do like your suggestion for a button to toggle flight controls to look controls. This function is available to joypad users - I guess I never thought people might fly things with the mouse!
I'll have a look at adding in a toggle button for the next update.
That was what I was originally looking for, but I was thinking I was misunderstanding the controls. it would be cool for us mouse freaks
Much appreciated for your time in replying. Hope you have a good weekend & I look forward to your future updates!
Or spend a bit of money for the delanclip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XiPEemKVkE which is more precise than face-tracking.
There's a smartphone app with good reviews, but never tried it.
If you like the experience and can afford it, TrackIR is the same, but more precise and easier to set up.
Funny thing is, even if I need more lighting and is a bit more janky, I now use face tracking all the time. For me, not needing to wear anything in my head to play beats the other options xD
Hey man thanks for your take! This seems like it would be good for users who may suffer from motion sickness using VR - Which I am one of. I think this Tracking IR would be awesome as I play Elite Dangerous etc!
