In every level save for Metallic Madness, find and destroy the Metal Sonic projector and the robot production capsule. In Metallic Madness, you just have to get the robot capsules. You have to do them in the past.

Or alternately, get all the Time Stones.

Yes. It's in some ways even harder than getting 100% good futures though because of the awkward 16 bit attempt at a 3 D environment in the special zone though.

Although, in this version of it, you can cheat a little. If you can tell that you're going to lose the special zone, you can pause and quit to menu. Then reload your save (which happens to save at the start of the special zones), and give it another try, for free.

I've managed to get all 7 stones that way...except I didn't know that you cannot get an achievement using Tails...

Sega was stupid by removing the old PC version's "unlock everything" cheat code though, since Stardust Speedway along makes unlocking anything at all hard.

You don't have to smash the projector, as far as I know. You just have to take out the the teleporter/robotisizer/capsule to create a Good Future. Do that in the first two acts of each area, and the third act will already be a Good Future.

If each and every zone ends as a Good Future, then you should unlock the good ending.

I heard rumours that in the remaster, if you smash all the projectors/generators and get all the time stones, there's a true ending.

Necrooooooo.
Please look at the date of the last post, it was in 2014.

That was originally the case, but the true final boss was scrapped for unknown reasons.
Destroy all the Metal Sonic holograms and robot teleporters or get all the time stones to get the good ending.
