Game won't open (windows 10)
Not matter what I do, I can't seem to get this game to run. I've setup Direct X and I tried every compatibility mode but still nothing. Is there any way to fix this?

Nope, same here. Tried all kinds of things. Get a big white screen then crash.

So, I have Virtual Box on my computer running Windows 7. I booted that up and installed steam, then downloaded and installed Sonic CD. Does not work there either. I'm wondering if it's something to do with my Nvidia Geforce 1050 GTX video or driver? Of course, Vbox does use some of Windows 10. Kind of clueless at this point.

OK, having read something someplace, I did this:
Go to your Steam Directory (wherever you installed the game)>steamapps>common>Sonic CD>directx. In there you will find "DXSetup.exe". I ran that and Sonic CD started to work. I strongly suggest you do a restore point before trying this as I don't know what it may break. Also don't know why it stopped working.

I know this thread is as old as Elon Musk's brain, but I tried the solution that walt.northup gave OP and it didn't work... I for sure thought it would, since I'm experiencing a similar issue, where whenever I start the game up, it's just a large white box on my screen and Task Manager is completely unusable, forcing me to restart my PC. Somebody recommended the decompilation to me, but considering the fact that the setup seems way too long and complicated, I'd rather just hope I can find a solution for the copy I have, which is the 2011 Steam copy with Restored.

I found a solution that worked for me. Credit to this post on Reddit:

Follow step 3, download the file and put all the dll's into the sonic cd root folder.
