Is Sonic CD Overrated?

Seriously how could people say that this is the best Sonic game? The music and aesthetic are good but the level design is honestly the weakest in the serie (even for a Classic game)

JSR is pretty and stylized, but theres nothing aesthetic about it.
Sonic Mania is pretty much a mix of Sonic 3 and CD so its not really comparable.

You are a bit wrong on that sentence:
A E S T H E T I C S are near to kitsch (and sometimes contribute to worsen the chaotic level design), and music is only acceptable in a few tracks (the rest is generic anime ♥♥♥ or mediocre environment music USA).
PD: It´s "IS SONIC CD OVERRATED?" OR "SONIC CD IS OVERRATED", but not both simultaneously.

to be real this game can fail if you play it like a normal sonic game its a ENTIRE WORLD in a level but it kinda falls at that because WACKYWORK BENCH w e oo that robot generator is bs

(just kidding)
2. Orthography is kind of sexy, do you know?
3. With Sonic you can only have two types of levels:
-Linear stage with automatized gameplay (except cheap traps).
-Irritating pseudo-open world with painfully slow platforming.
In other words: BAD LEVEL DESIGN EVERYWHERE

You're right, the level design is horrible. It doesn't reward going fast. If you go too fast you'll fall to a lower path which usually is longer and has even more useless obstacles (in this game this is even worse than in the Genesis ones). There are a lot of things that make you go slower, as if the developers wanted to increase the duration of the game (like the "bubbles" in Collision Chaos).
