The good and the bad...
On the one hand, a big-budget singleplayer shooter from an AAA studio could be amazing, like Doom 2016 or Titanfall 2. The graphics and character designs looked fantastic; I particularly liked the hooded helmets warn by the magic soldiers as 0:30 in the trailer. However, the voice acting is execrable. They created this badass 'military mage' setting, then had the characters talking like Joss Whedon rejects. I want my war wizard to sound like the holy union of Gandalf and an Astartes.

Execrable? LOL What, do you carry a tyranno-thesaurus around?

Just kidding, we all pick up different words here and there in our reading. Just seldom I have to look one up! LOL

Yeah, true. Neat visuals, eyeroll-inducing dialogue so far. I wonder if it's going to be one of those sandboxes with a million little distractions and barely any plot.

I read Warhammer 40,000 novels since I was 12; I picked up much of my advanced vocabulary from there. My teachers were suitably creeped out by a 7th-grader who's favourite word is 'eviscerate'.

I was questioned for plagiarism in 10th grade for using reminisce in a paper I wrote. This from an English (subject) teacher who watched me walk in and out of his class every day with a novel on top of my stack of school books. 10th graders apparently are too ignorant to have a vocabulary.

I'm conflicted... I can't decide what is worst, the utterly terrible dialogue or the 90s GPU box art artstyle.

At least the gameplay looks like it could be fun.

This is why I couldn’t finish Atomic Heart and why I’ll never even consider Forspoken. They’re too cringeworthy. The main characters are a couple of the worst I’ve ever seen. Surely this game can’t be as bad as those, but I’m sure it will be typical hero cringe and that’s unfortunate. After this year, I certainly hope that developers realize that nobody likes these kinds of characters.

Meanwhile, Gundam: Witch from Mercury has a stuttery, neurotic, and possibly autistic moeblob as its main character (Suletta Mercury), and everyone loves her. I don't want 'realistic' characters, I want LIKEABLE characters. As someone autistic myself, I empathize far more with Suletta than I did with someone like Frey.

Exactly, likable characters, whether they're realistic or not.

For me, the 'heroes' I empathize with are either cutesy ones like the aforementioned Suletta, or inhuman badasses like Doomguy. Guys in tights cracking quips isn't wish fulfilment for me.

I agree when it comes to the "Now we have a location for the location" one. Like, can we please stop trying to render actors' faces in games? Most of the time it looks disturbing, to say the least. But I personally don't mind the buff one with the pony tail. However that's probably my bias of muscular women, since I'm a gymrat IRL.

As for the overall discussion: I agree with OP. The world/settings is something that's hardly ever explored and it's coupled with writing that is just nauseating to listen to. Though this is one trailer, so if anything the writing could get better when more is revealed. But let's be honest, that's probably not going to happen...

well, the trailer has to attract the audience they are not going to use a subpar part of the writing. in short this is the best they could give us...

hahahaha that trailer. Looks like Forspoken like trash, but its EA so itll be way way worse. all flash and no substance and the obvious boxes are ticked in BOLD for the mEsSaGe

State of western made video games nowadays, instant ignore

I think the reason is that game studios have heard that players want diverse characters, and the praise lavished on ones done well such as Senua (Hellblade, mentally ill) or Bridget (Guilty Gear, transgender) makes them want a piece of the pie. The problem is, their obsession with money causes them to ignore that those characters were popular because they were unique and memorable, not because they ticked arbitrary boxes. As a result, these studios create 'diverse' characters that are just as bland as 'generic' ones, just from the opposite direction.

nah, I don't believe that its has anything to do with money. infact if its about money they would not have made those bad deisgn choices in the first place.

this is a form of religious incentive believing you are making a moral right by using diverse characters in your franchise. or it could be as simple as ESG characters to increase their credit score with some corrupt bank policies. either way its the players and the low payed workers who get screwed.
