This games' failure is our fault
When we look back in a few years and ask, "Why don't we have any good single-player FPS games anymore? Why is everything a live service now?", we can surely pin-point this moment in time. When we were still being given incredible genre-bending industry elevating game experiences that nobody would shell out the money to give half a chance.

Meanwhile, at the exact same moment in time, gamers raise hell and complain about developers who create games around live service models that have seasons, skins, and DLC that the same gamers happily pump money into.

I'm not saying, I'm not part of this blame. I did purchase this game, and I did play the ♥♥♥♥ out of it, but I also pour tons of money into Warframe, I pre-ordered Skull & Bones, and even though I refunded Suicide Squad due to performance issues, I really wanted to play it and didn't have any objections to the live-service model so I do plan on getting it again after a few patches and maybe a drop in price.

But these choices have real world consequences when really great AAA developers are being quoted in gaming articles saying, "a AAA single-player shooter in today's market was a truly awful idea. No one bought it." This literally breaks my heart. I don't know what the solution is, but being aware of a problem is definitely the first step, and if nothing else, I want the developers to know that they did make a truly successful game that I thoroughly enjoyed and will continue to return to and recommend. And maybe, just maybe, this game influencing the next generation of indie studios that have no problem taking the risk of avoiding a live-service model.

So I'm not here to spark a debate or a fight; I will not be dragged into the same old toxic steam forum behavior that has become so prevalent. This is for the other fans of this game who have the same thoughts as well as for the developers who may see far more toxic negativity than praise and thanks. And while I'm here, Bulletstorm is one of my all-time favorite games and the game that I've replayed the most. So thank you for that one as well!!!!!

EDIT: Sometimes I'm passionate about a topic of discussion but I don't really know how to express that, so I just start writing. A couple responses were correct in pointing out some of the flaws in EA's marketing as well as the fact that some games just don't succeed
and that some games, no matter how well they are received, aren't for everyone. I think my real beef in all of this is that, it's one thing for gamers not to buy a game, for whatever reason. There are too many games to play in one's lifetime as it is, that's just a plain fact. But it's another thing to hope a game fails or to take joy in the failure of anything really. And I can no longer tell the difference between passive trolling, active hatred, or constructive debate fueled by genuine opinions. Which leaves me feeling powerless so I go out of my way to show that I'm willing to shoulder any of this blame, maybe not to fix the problem or to throw myself and my fellow gamers under the bus, but as an attempt to solidify genuine unselfish opinions about a gaming industry and community I'm increasingly more concerned about.

Why does every Steam discussion revolve around "woke"? I'm tired of conspiracy theorists claiming every AAA game is "woke" and then saying that is why the game failed. Meanwhile Playstation games and BG3 are selling millions of copies. Everything is not about "woke"/ESG/Pandering/LGBT. Go watch Fox News or a Donald Trump Rally and stop spreading nonsense on Steam Forums.

Glad it failed to earn more. The gameplay design looks like ass and it's a blind simulator.
Also they were dumb enough to pay a view bot streamers to advertise it.
People seen the gameplay it wasn't good or interesting. Mostly eye pollution. The visuals may be nice, but it needs more than that.

Dev team tried to invent a new wheel and failed. The older model wheel exists for a reason.

game was too woke for me
I get your point and i agree but some titles are a bit forgetful along with their price when you get other options. My budget ain't good for gaming at the moment. When i get the chance what do you think i shall buy

Helldivers 2 ? Games like Atomic Heart? DLC for an already favourite title of mine.

You make a good point just not this title

I don't give a flying ♥♥♥♥ about all that woke nonsense. I don't buy games that use Denuvo. Period. Companies that do that can rot in hell for all I care.
Zumbi Filosófico Feb 14, 2024 @ 12:00pm
If the game was made, published or even as much as touched by EA, gamers shouldn't buy it. Thank god, a lot of people didn't.

I didn't even realize this game exists until I read an article about it flopping. Moreover, it's an EA game. With it's reputation, most are just gonna assume it is filled with loot boxes, predatory practices and the likes, and simply skip it. You want to blame something, blame EA.

Game looked woke af to me and I don't pay for woke products. Not surprised it failed. That new Banishers game is likely the next to fail. My wallet will be waiting when companies get back to making normal stuff. Until then, I'm happy to save my cash and spend it on other things.

And call me a big meanie, but I have no sympathy for these studios like Rocksteady, Volition, Luminous, etc. that make these types of products. I actively root for them to go out of business.

Because every game (close to anyway) made in the last 5 years is woke. If it wasn't no one would be complaining about it... *taps microphone* is this thing on?

50% of the 20 topsellers 2023 where singelplayer games so its the game here who is the problem.

1. Its an EA game I am not willing to give them money if its not a very good game.
2. Release date
3. Why magic setting when its playing like a normal shooter?
4. Ugly females (When they want my money they need to make the chars like I want them, and not to please a crowd wo was never going to buy it).

If I am reasonable for this failing i'm glad because I hate just about everything about it

I'd say your other complaints are fair and valid for some players, but what do you mean by this? Because it comes off as being something I'm not sure you actually mean and I'm not going to say, so I thought I'd just ask.

Any comment using the term "woke" in a derogatory way, in my opinion, has become synonymous with trolling, toxicity, and hate for the sake of hate and/or attention. Those comments never offer a reason whatsoever or any sort of actual opinion outside of pure polarity towards something that is actually a very complex topic. So even if someone might actually have a good talking point on the subject, the decision to just slap the term "woke" on something or say that everything is "woke" so that its this very static all-encompassing blanket statement is a sure sign they are just repeating something they heard elsewhere, either from like-minded friends and family or some sort of media outlet they consume every day. And because it is such an abstract and polarizing topic it's common ammunition for those who just want to stir ♥♥♥♥ up without actually needing to back up what they're saying with real information or genuine opinions.
