Anyway I beat a boss and now I have 1/6 on the achievement.
Yeah I did nearly no damage on the shield. It does warn players to have best gear equipped etc, but I guess those bosses can be left until almost endgame.
Whereas I just completed chapter ten (of eighteen).
It was a highly challenging boss and I died a few times before I worked out what to do. On the time I beat the boss, it must have been a half hour fight at least.
The bosses shield recharges at every quarter point in the battle, so three times.
It just meant using the blue sigil as that does most shield damage. Blue sigil was also best for doing damage to boss once shield had gone since it was ranged. Green sigil is tricky to land with when dodging in and out of cover.
It was just a matter of patience once the battle-plan was worked out. Ciup away a bit of the enemy slowly one bit at a time.
Other tips:
If you have the two options in Talents, for receiving health if shield is damaged, that helps.
It also helped having the sixth spell, which slows times. I would hit that spell, equip shield, come out of cover, and hit with blue sigil. As soon as my shield was hit and gone, (and recovered health for it), I ducked back into cover.
Any time it got a hit which takes almost all health, I would use it cracking my shield to regain health. Hide, put shield up, come out and shoot - shield gets hit and dropped, back into cover and wait for shield to recharge.
Anon, and on. Was a good feeling finally beating the boss though.
Hands were shaking at the very end just before my last shots.
Yeah I was confused by that.
I think magic power is for spells like (blue) ground shatter which breaks shields - number 1 on keyboard.
and (red) blast - number two on keyboard etc.
etc.
I think upgrades to sigil strikes are what increases sigil damage.
It might have told us somewhere but maybe I missed it.
That's what I think now, in chapter ten, and many hours into the game.
Initially I thought increases to magic power increased out magic that we put into the sigils.
Take "magic power" and look at it like an attack stat.
Sigil dmg is a modifier that goes over the magic power, together with crit / crit dmg and so on.
Magic power and sigil dmg are separate things, so for example 15% blue magic power is not the same as 15% dmg increase.
Shatter is what increases your damage to shields and the speed at which you break them.
As for the issue with the boss shield from OP, he would need to state which boss specifically because some, hitting them with the same color magic is not always the best choice.
