It's the strangest thing, when I look up the noun's definition, I am met with a rather strong consensus. I referenced 5 dictionaries/encyclopedias, all of which appoint the following: Sir is [...] "used as a polite or respectful way of addressing a man, especially one in a position of authority".

Remember kids...words have meaning, you have every right to bastardize those meanings in order to feel special or unique, or worse yet, to push a narrative, but don't expect anyone to take you seriously, ever.

Rage 2 did this same thing too. In the introduction scene for Rage 2 your character is greeted by a stunning and brave female soldier whom is the only competent character in the game. All the men are bumbling idiots.

In the American military, you would never address a female officer as "Sir." In the United States, you would address the officer as "Ma'am" and not "Sir". It's considered disrespectful to use the term "Sir" for a female in both the army/navy and outside.

Well in the military you call a female "sir" if she outranks you. Simple as that. Plus, we don't know Zendara's pronouns. Maybe she identifies as a male, maybe she's very much a girl on the inside, despite her cold look. The fact that this is a question means there's some...parental talks that haven't taken place yet.
