Since the last time I have reviewed a "My Furry" visual novel by Dirty Fox Games, I have made a few more friends on Steam, some of which are people I first met offline. And if any of them are reading this, hey, you had the chance to skim over my gaming library and read my past reviews before clicking that Accept button; it's too late for you to hate me now or be disgusted by my tastes!

My Furry Protogen is the breakout hit of the My Furry series, without a doubt due to the content creator Raeal the Protogen, who was instantly smitten by leading lady Juno and has since formed a partnership with Dirty Fox to produce merchandise and help fund multiple sequels. And boy howdy, does this story end on a bittersweet note that left a lot of questions unanswered yet in a way that makes you crave answers, so those sequels are certainly welcome...ah, but I'm starting at the end instead of the beginning, aren't I? In the beginning, this is a story about [INSERT YOUR NAME HERE], a male "human" (the setting's not Earth but your physiology's identical) from a tribal village who was prophesied to be the Chosen One, despite having no idea what they were chosen for, nor good combat abilities or grades, nor even any useful knowledge about the world outside of their own village due to the other villagers basically keeping you in a gilded cage since childhood. And then, during an escape attempt, You meet Juno, the titular Furry Protogen who's come to the planet for research purposes and needs a guide but is otherwise hesitant to break any kind of Underdeveloped Planet Preservation Pact. A few lies later (from both sides), You and Juno are travelling the planet together, admit to said lies, end up discovering something incredibly dangerous, and try to find a solution before catastrophe is inevitable...only to fail, but at least you still have each other, and resolve to make your own destiny together.

The cast was very minimal, but it makes sense given the story is about a person growing up basically in isolation who then bonds with someone who's all alone herself for her own reasons (save for an AI assistant), and their dynamic is enough to stay interesting. With that said, the plot felt rather rushed in the third act; all of the scenes of intimacy are basically back-to-back as a long but not really defined amount of in-setting time passes, and then the climax just hits like a brick from the blue immediately after. The art was alright, with lots of nice backgrounds and some good talking poses for Juno, but there's only one or two pieces of full-screen art outside of the NSFW DLC, and even with the DLC, it's just four more scenes with four minor variants each (starting, during, sweaty & during, aftermath) that are, in my opinion, painfully generic.

Ultimately, I don't think you should pay $5 CAD for this two-hour-at-best experience, but maybe check it out while it's on sale for a mostly fun sci-fi story with some decent musings on destiny through the lens of two completely different characters that had their fates thrust upon them and coincidentally intertwine. Oh, and also the cute toasterProtogen girl.
