As for survival, kill everything you see from far range. MAX Spur will do the job just fine. Use Fireball when you want to hit something under you and away from your distance.
When you reach floor 3, you can farm HPs by going back upto floor 2 and come back down.
That way, the heart pickups and mobs will respawn at where they were.
GL!
Also, when fighting Ballos II, power up the Spur and fire it when Ballos stops jumping (every 3 jumps, 2 jumps when he first opens his eyes). When you have fired the Spur straight through his face, turn around and hit him with Curly's Nemesis a few times then jump off. You will be able to deal about 200 damage with each time you do this. If you are running low on HP, shoot the green creatures in the air, but get off Ballos before he jumps because you are likely to be damaged by the green creatures.
For Ballos III, charge the Spur to shoot 3-4 eyes each time he rolls along the ground and shoot the L1 Blade and Curly's Nemesis upwards to hit his eyes, but run to the middle area when he starts rolling back to the ground.
When Ballos has 1 eye left, jump onto his body (attempting to avoid damage from his external eyes) and shoot the remaining eye to finish Ballos III and preparing to shoot Ballos IV with the L2-3 Missiles/Super Missiles. When you jump on to the body at the end of Ballos III, have the Spur equipped as most of the other weapons would level down when hit by a Ballos eye.
