can`t give items to the bomb-making robot? [solved]

okay, i feel like i know specifically why i can`t give it to the robot, & it`s because i collected the charcoal before it was requested inside the game. i guess my question is if there`s any way to bypass this or will i have to start over? i have tried saving & exiting the game, talking to the locked up person, & testing every single door in the bushlands area. ohh, i`d also like to avoid starting over if possible. i`m also playing on normal mode if that means anything.

Collecting the materials before prompted to shouldn't matter. What does the robot say when you talk to it?

Charcoal, Jellyfish Juice, and Gum Base.
Let us make the bomb once all of the materials have been amassed!"

Oh. If it says that and you really do have all the materials, it sounds like you might be the victim of some glitch. Would you mind posting a screenshot of your inventory, just in case?

i have the gum base. it`s the bottom left item. i talked to the person stuck inside the building, s/he gave it to me.

That's the gum key. It will let you find the gum base.
