Did this suddenly go survival horror? (spoilers)

After I left the red maze for the first time I was warned of 9 enemies now wandering the hotel. I’m not sure if I can continue playing now? I have major anxiety issues and avoid horror games like the plague, so if this suddenly became one then I’m out.

If you don't care about slight spoilers, the "enemies" aren't dangerous per se. You will not get jump scared or outright killed if they catch you. Try hugging one! Just make sure to save early and often!

Did you get scared by the window ghost? The Maze Men are about as scary as anything you've seen in the game up to that point. If one catches you, you get put into a unique puzzle with one chance to answer correctly. A correct answer gives you a key item so dealing with all 9 is essential for story progress. There's a finite number and their appearance is spaced out.

Like others have said, it does not become super intense and is certainly not a traditional horror game. The atmosphere is eerie throughout much of the game, but if it's horror and specifically dealing with enemies in horror games that's difficult for you, I think you'll be okay here.
