This just floored me. I think after so much silence, this felt so much more powerful.
I dunno. I think you can. I think Device 6 is a calmer affair, more dreamlike... just position it as an immersive storybook with light puzzle elements.
I loved the game, I have the posters, I'm a fan boy. It has made me a lifetime fan of Simogo, and Laser Eyes has not disappointed.
I'll also big up Sailor's Dream, and I may be completely off base but I took the text in The Sensational December Machine to be a lament that people didn't get it, and can't just enjoy an experience for its own sake. That there must always be a purpose.
Yeah, Simogo said the response to the Sailor's Dream inspired the Sensational December Machine on their website.
I remember being pretty disappointed the Sailor's Dream didn't follow in the footsteps of Year Walk and Device 6, at the time. But I was also a young teen then, and was really judging the game based off what I expected instead of trying to engage with what it was doing. At the end of the day you can't really blame people for expecting another dark puzzle game a year after Simogo busted out two in a row, but I still kinda feel like I missed out by not giving the game a real chance. I'm probably going to give Sailor's Dream another try, one of these days.
When Lorelei released, I was excited that Simogo finally made another game that followed in the legacy of Device 6 and Year Walk. And in a certain way, it does feel vindicating that Lorelei is everything I could've dreamed of and more, back then. I don't know what Simogo is going to do next, but I don't expect them to make another puzzle game again, even if I really like their puzzles. It feels like they've already taken that as far as it can go in Lorelei. So I'm probably going to give their next project a shot no matter what it winds up being.
