Can't Invade Home Areas?

Not being able to invade home areas makes for some redundant wars - particularly Italy vs. Austria-Hungary, and Japan vs. Russia (and China, to some extent). Once you take the available nearby areas, you can't invade their home area. I played as Japan and was continually having Russia declare war on me. As well with Italy, have taken Dalmatia and Algeria (and Tunisia and Libya from France). Controlling that much area of a coastline, but not the small amount that houses the enemy fleet? If there is nothing for me to gain, why would I engage with them at all?

edit the save file after a big war and give it to yourself.

Open the map file in the appropriate save folder. (The game now includes a helpful in game link to your save location, right next to the save button.) I don't have the game in front of me, but you're looking for the filename that starts with "map." Close RTW3 before you open it, the game does not like save files being open in a third party application.

Copy your nation name from a possession you own, search for the possession you want, and paste your nation name over the ownership. Save the file, exit your text editor, and reopen RTW3. You don't need to touch anything else, income for colonies, etc., is all automatically adjusted.
