Does the secondary battery director also work on the tertiary battery?
Is it very effective and worth the cost/weight?
Is 5” battery worth the extra weight over 4”?

About the last one. The later you are in the game the more useful longer range secondaries are. Even non-DP 6" battery is worth its weight.

Late game you want the damage and the range, early game you need the rate of fire more.

depends what you want your secondaries for, 6 inch is the max calibre for secondaries before they have a chance for flash fires(and therefore you would need to armour them heavily as well which is weight expensive, and only worth doing for late predreads) so if its pure damage and range you want 6 inch is the best(albeit far heavier than the smaller calibres) that said generally the best secondaries by the time you have a secondary director will be 4 inch and 5 inch guns that are the best calibres for Dual purpose guns(5 inch offers slightly more HAA than 4 inch, 6 inch guns have significantly lower HAA than either 4 or 5 inch, though autoloaded 6 inch guns are as effective as 4/5 inch guns)

What is your opinion on using secondary DP guns in missile age? Is it worth it or better use SAMS, whatever you can fit on ships

I would agree. Although I tend to refit 6/5/4" guns with 3" guns as autoloaded and at their endgame tech they are effective at chewing up DDs/TRs and any aircraft not missile armed.
