The AI is not perfect, it does seem to be more passive at times than I would like, but it is very far from the worst I have seen.
secondly i would expect the AI to use some kind of search pattern much rather than going in circles
thirdly, it actually depends on day or night but when i get radar they seem to struggle with recognizing a radar contact
fourthly, this behaviour frequently starts at the very beginning of a battle with no specific objective, so thats not even really a possibility
2 of my old BBs which got heavily damaged are just homing into the enemy fleets aka practically suicide
Are there any particular situations you've noticed where the AI performed poorly?
Generally there is nothing we really can tell AI formation to do. Most roles are just "stay near the flagship" in different fasion. I really wish we could ask our formation to pursue a specific enemy formation or any command we can tell our formation to do in relative to enemy fleets' position.
Player? Unless you intend on micromanaging a battle so much that it takes IRL HOURS, you're inherently at a disadvantage.
There really should be a setting that, if turned on, causes all non-selected squadrons to go to player-faction AI.
