Control over game font sizes.
Saw another player mention it. After that, I realized that yes, I would like same.
Please create ability to control the font sizes in-game. As you know, many who play the game are older and would most likely benefit.

We know some players are having issues with the game's UI due to scaling issues or particular monitor setups. Here's a range of solutions you can try to resolve these issues:

1) Desktop Scaling: The game UI/font size in the game will scale according to changes made to your Windows Desktop scaling factor. You can adjust this scaling factor by the following steps:

Select Start > Settings > System > Display. Look for the "Scale" or "Scale & layout" section and adjust the scale % to a higher value, and test the game to see if that is a better view.

2) Adjust High DPI Scaling: If you have high-resolution (4K or 1440+) monitor and/or have issues with cut-off controls in the game then this adjustment may help you if you are running Windows 11 or later versions of Windows 10:

a) Open up your RTW3 Steam folder: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rule the Waves 3" is the default install folder.

b) Right-click on the file called "RTW3.exe"

c) Choose "Properties"

d) Click on the "Compatibility" tab

e) Click on "Change high DPI settings"

f) Check the box for "Override high scaling behavior" - For "Scaling performed by" choose "System (Enhanced)"

...Launch the game and see if this helps...if it does not then please turn the setting back 'off' as its not needed and might produce other issues in that case.

3) Windows Magnifier: If the text is too small to comfortably read the following may help you:

Using Magnifier on Windows 11: To quickly turn on Magnifier, press the Windows logo key + Plus sign (+) . To turn off Magnifier, press the Windows logo key + Esc. If you prefer using a mouse, select  Start  > Settings >  Accessibility > Magnifier, and then turn on the Magnifier switch.

Using Magnifier on Windows 10: To quickly turn on Magnifier, press the Windows logo key + Plus sign (+) . To turn off Magnifier, press the Windows logo key + Esc .  If you prefer using a mouse, select  Start  > Settings >  Ease of Access   > Magnifier > Turn on Magnifier.

If it helps there is a window setting where you can adjust that too. I think i have it at 150% on 1440p resolution.

Thanks for the "work-around". I was aware. I was hoping for user control directly within the application though.

We are looking at an option that would help resolve font and related issues, but it will take some work and testing to see if it fits the bill.

Thanks!

Yeah, no. It's all good.

The "Thanks" is to you for making the entertaining game.

Sorry to necro a thread but it relates exactly to my initial stumbling block after buying the game recently.
Is there a feature now implemented to scale font size/UI elements from within the application itself?
I have tried a few work arounds as suggested but with a 32" 1440p monitor it is still very difficult to read anything without straining.

If not implemented, do you have an ETA? I know that's a developer's fav question and all but i gotta ask :P

Thank you

Not at the moment.

It's something the dev team have on their to-do list, but AFAIK will involve a fairly major time investment as it effectively needs the UI to be re-written.

I wouldn't anticipate anything in less than 6 months.

this is such a pressing issue. hope it gets resolved soon

This shows that the game was not tested properly or extensively enough on higher settings and large [ish] monitors. Also more optimization is needed under Windows 11. This is bad and should have been done before it's release. I like others are very disappointed in RTW 3 with these flaws and the terrible AI in the combat part of the game. It is simply not good enough. Sorry does not cut the mustard.

I mean, of course it wasn't? The GUI is the same as it's been for quite some time, and the GUI code most likely is too with little revision.

People have funny expectations about what small developers are going to do, especially specialty ones.

To implement full UI / Font scaling would require a rewrite of the base engine and a major upgrade of development tools, which was not possible for RTW3.

While we would like to do this in the future, it's not a quick or possible for a near future update. Our main focus is on improving the gameplay further. In the meantime, the game does scale as most Windows UI-type applications do, but you need to follow the advice in the FAQ above to get it to suit your system.
