Casemate Vs Turret
Im designing my initial ships and im trying to figure out the benefits of CASEMATE over TURRET. I get that turrets have a wider Arc over Casemate, but do Casemates have any actual benefit? The weight doesnt change so is it more, Casemates have the BELT protection while turrets need SECONDARY protection?

Casemates do not consume topside space and are usually located on a lower deck than pedestal/turret guns. Some early protected cruiser ("CL") designs hit topside limits when going "all pedestal". Casemate gun armor (secondary armor) also functions as an extension of the upper belt, especially in early years (up to the 1910s or so) ships with secondary armored casemate guns are less likely to go up in flames due to HE shell rain thatn designs with pedestal guns as secondaries. Casemated guns are also not subject to negatives from certain early main gun turret arrangements (e.g. Q and V turrets reduce secondary turret or pedestal gun ROF by -20% due to blast effects) .

What sea states do casemates work in, though? Do they "turn off" in rough seas? I was never too sure about that in RTW2.

They do, yes. They also have less capability against land targets.

I can't speak to their effectiveness against land targets but it makes sense to a degree.

Rough weather can make a percentage of your casemates unusable, I don't think it can knock them all out however. Unsure how this might combine with overloading on secondaries or low freeboard.

The main benefit of a casemated gun over a turret mount is that they share belt armour protection. A hit against a casemate (at least secondary ones) has a chance to be counted against the belt armour value rather than the inherent 'secondary' armour value. This allows you to save a considerable amount of weight. I typically only use 2in armour on most casemates, to protect against splinters, either the belt eats a direct hit or they die.

Additionally, small calibre guns in a full turret as opposed to a gunshield (i.e using any armour value over 2in) suffer from a significant RoF malus for quite a while.
