Does a ships radar level only increase radar range, or does it give any other benefits?

Trying to figure out the best minimum cost designs, and at the current stage im willing to compromise radar range, but im wondering if it hurts detection changes, identification and/or weapon targeting.

I figured it as more mast/tower/antennae space makes for good places to mount things like AA guns in fighting tops.
