What are red circles on tactical map about?
Did a search, didn't find anything. In some battles there are red circles on the map, sometimes dotted, sometimes continuous. I'm sure there are other map symbols I don't know either. Anyone have any information?

Those are probably the minefields.

They are indeed, red circles represent friendly minefields.

Lots of small red circles with diagonal stripes inside, at more or less random spots on the open sea? Those are indeed most likely minefields.

Ok, I've played a lot more and just want to expand the answers given. A single red circle in a mission indicates the target or, in the case of convoy hunting, the suspected target area.

A big, solid red spot that you can IIRC focus on by clicking on the objective in the sidebar, yes.

Small, non-solid spots as described by SirChaos77 are minefields (and larger patches that form around enemy ports are too.)

Maybe a weird question to a long-dead thread, but has anyone seen the minefields with blue squares in them? What does the blue square with blue diagonal stripes in the middle of the red circle with red diagonal stripes mean?

Red circles are friendly minefields

Blue squares are where your ships report that they have run into a mine.

So if you have a blue square in a red circle...you have likely run into one of your own mines!
