Best armour sets for each class
So I've been accumulating various bits and pieces from different armour sets and storing them in my shared stash, right now my Outlander's got 4 pieces of the Ezrohir set and a few other rares/uniques filling it out, but I'm wondering what the best sets to chase down for each character class are?

I've started putting together the Janissary set for my Embermage and I have four pieces of the Wildwood set, though I'm not sure who would benefit from that one the most.

This is my first playthrough, obviously.

edit: Also, I seem to be lagging behind by two or three levels despite my policy of doing as many sidequests as I can find, and butchering anything that moves. What gives?

imo there is no best set for a specific class...Your playstyle and build are two important things to look at when you choose a set :)

I agree completely.. all depends on how you play your build

there are 5 "ultimate" 9-piece sets in the game. one for each class:

Harbinger (Berserker) - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=BERSERKER_FINAL
Trancendent (Embermage) - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=EMBERMAGE_FINAL
Mondon’s Vestment (Engineer) - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=ENGINEER_FINAL
Unearthly (Outlander) - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=OUTLANDER_FINAL

plus one neutral set:

Celestial - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=U_CELESTIAL

also, there are the more popular (and slightly less rare) 7-piece sets:

Emberweave (Embermage) - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=U_EMBERWEAVE
Cornerstone (Engineer) - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=U_GRAND_ARCHITECT
Labarinto (Outlander) - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=U_LABARINTO
Savage (Berserker) - http://torchlight2armory.com/set?i=U_SAVAGE

and several neutral non-unique 8-9-piece sets which are quite rare:

Aristocrat, Bloodsteam, Valkyrie, Inquisitor and Dragonrift.

you also can mix and match stuff that are more helpful for your build, and not go for full set bonuses in case you have standalone uniques which are better.

Thanks for the info. I've actually held off from finishing the set my Outlander is wearing simply because the boots, gauntlets and stuff I had were way better than the set pieces plus the set bonus.

I agree with what most have said here. And as one point was made. It actually comes down to "Best Armour Set for xyz build" is what you need to look, not "Best Armour Set for abc class". Simply for the fact that you could play two outlanders and build them differently, and they could require two completely different sets of gear,

Transcendent for embermage -- minimum of 6 pieces, max of 10. If you only go 6 pieces, drop the rings, hat, gloves, in favor of something else. I'd suggest aristocrat for the rings, but don't have suggestions for the gloves & hat yet. I'm wearing 10 pieces (9-piece set, with duplicate ring).

That post you responded to was 3 years old, back then the website he linked to actually was a Torchlight 2 resource (it's dead now of course).
