The benefits of co-op?
Out of curiosity, are there any innate benefits to co-op in Torchlight 2 aside from the ability to pool strengths with other players? I was recently in a game with 6 people and I actually found that the overall progress was considerably lower and death happened far more frequently than in a solo situation or even 2-3 people.

Its better to play with friends rather then random people, my first co op I played with randoms and it was total crap 3 people went off and did their own thing and two of us worked together, I just ended up booting the other 3 it also bugged the hell out of me when no one communicates with each other thou I suspect some may not have spoken english.

talked a buddy of mine into play t2 and its way better with someone you know.

Well, yes, that is the only benefit of co-op. Runic hasn't put anything in that more people, better loot setup. Whether they will or not, I don't know.

As to you finding the progress slower and dying more often. Well, at a guess, that's probably due to the party not co-operating and working together and still doing their own thing and also, thinking we have multiple people here, I can just kamikaze this, people will keep me alive.

Alas things don't work like that. You're going to find good people who together to play with and you're going to find bad groups just maybe even more often than good groups, unfortunately that's just the downfall of multiplayer. As long as people don't wander off, stick together, help each other out, group will or should always work, these things don't happen the group inevitably fails.

I did notice you do have a friends and block list on the multi player. I'd probably make use of the block list at least to filter out the players, who are just bad and don't do the right thing by the group. As to how you define a bad player, well there's no easy answer to that, you just know from what they do.

@Zero, you just proved my case. Thanks :D

The main thing for co-op, in my opinion, is that there will be a lot of loot and, if the group is composed by friends, exhancing unique/set items and needed weapons has no price.

first benefit: much more fun
Other than that: more loot if you are trading, faster progression at least for the weaker members of the party, but probably not for the strongest ones
most important benefit: much more fun

And what Zero said: "Its better to play with friends rather then random people"

I think you get more XP. We tried 6 player on the weekend and seemed to lvl pretty fast. The game didnt last long with all the desyncing issues. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.

As far as I know there is no difference in Exp gain or dropped Items in Multiplayer. Except from faster progression through synergy effects of the party.

The main benefit is having fun with others. I think it's a good thing that there aren't any dramatic in-game advantages from playing co-op.

+ fun factor + loot share and chances at better gear with + people getting drops. And it does make the game easier although that isnt always a good thing lol 2 people can run across the map killing everything pdq. I don't leave my games open though personally.. friends only so no diptards enter and i have to take the time to boot them. ;)
