talked a buddy of mine into play t2 and its way better with someone you know.
As to you finding the progress slower and dying more often. Well, at a guess, that's probably due to the party not co-operating and working together and still doing their own thing and also, thinking we have multiple people here, I can just kamikaze this, people will keep me alive.
Alas things don't work like that. You're going to find good people who together to play with and you're going to find bad groups just maybe even more often than good groups, unfortunately that's just the downfall of multiplayer. As long as people don't wander off, stick together, help each other out, group will or should always work, these things don't happen the group inevitably fails.
I did notice you do have a friends and block list on the multi player. I'd probably make use of the block list at least to filter out the players, who are just bad and don't do the right thing by the group. As to how you define a bad player, well there's no easy answer to that, you just know from what they do.
Other than that: more loot if you are trading, faster progression at least for the weaker members of the party, but probably not for the strongest ones
most important benefit: much more fun
And what Zero said: "Its better to play with friends rather then random people"
As far as I know there is no difference in Exp gain or dropped Items in Multiplayer. Except from faster progression through synergy effects of the party.
