Icy Blast or Prismatic Bolt?

not using fire skills for this embermage. what do you prefer? icy blast or prismatic bolt? the latter seems to do way better, especially with as little as one point in each skill trees brand. icy blast fits well for my storm mage build, but i sometimes feel it is not doing as much damage at 14/15 points; the prismatic bolt seems to be doing way more damage with just one point in it at my level of 85.
i cant decide. opinions?

Prismatic Bolt is a really powerful skill, arguably the best one embermages get. You can never go wrong taking it, but some people think it's too OP or commonly used.

My understanding is that icy blast does not scale very well (only +2% damage or something). Might be worth getting it to rank 5 and using it to debuff mobs. Frost wave is a much better choice for a primary skill.

I'm considering a combination of frost wave, hail storm, and thunder locus. Haven't actually played it yet though.

thanks for the reply. prismatic bolt is very OP, but i dont seem to miss icy blast at all. with prismatic bolt, the fact that i can stand on a cliff and it will find enemies out of my melee range is awesome. im slaughtering hordes of enemies without even having to move. just spawn thunder locus in the middle of the horde and spam prismatic bolt. all dead!

I've been using fire as it's my go to for mages...but i seem to not be doing much damage, i'll try switching to prismatic bolt and let the slaughtering begin.

you will be amazed at the difference when you switch. it almost seems unfair which is why i assume alot of people don't like the skill. they want more of a challenge. i, on the other hand, just want to kill everything!
