Torchlight II freezing upon leveling.

My boyfriend and I recently bought Torchlight II and have been enjoying it a lot. We've both downloaded the game from Steam, both subscribed to the same mod (Torchlight II Essentials), and have had nearly no problems for 35 levels. However, for the past two days, every time I gain a level the game will completely freeze for him. He can't click, can't do anything but ctrl+alt+delete and send Torchlight away. When he loads back up, his character will be... rolled back? I don't know how to describe it other than he will lose all the experience and items he has gained since his last map load.

We're both playing on LAN.
He's hosting the game.
We both are using the Torchlight II Essentials mod.
I'm an Embermage; he's an Engineer.
(not sure if all this information would help, but the more the better, I say)

We've been looking for a solution to this issue, but so far we've just gotten a lot of Torchlight crashing upon a map load screen, which isn't our issue, as outlined above.

If anyone could help or point us in the right direction, that would be much appreciated.

We've enjoyed the game thus far. I don't want my superior playing skills to turn us off the game forever. :]

Not sure why it would freeze but I believed his character rolled back because it didn't get the chance to save before crashing. Therefore it resulted in a roll back. This also happens when you don't sync the game with the steam cloud.

I'm not anywhere close to sure, but if I had to guess I'd say the issue has something to do with the LAN. Maybe try switching hosts or playing on the internet with a password protected game.

You are correct, freaL, that is why it reverted. The backup character helped quite a bit, so thank you. I'm afraid the first link didn't help; though it is still appreciate it.

@Godspark127 Why do you believe the lan to be the issue? I think the next thing we try is to have her host the game. If I still freeze (or she does), we will try for the internet, as you suggested.

She tried hosting on the internet, and we had no luck.

She removed all of her class mods, and still no luck.

Any other ideas?

We fixed it. through cheating!

We found out something about her character was corrupted.

We stored all her stuff in the shared stash (mod)

We backed it up, and created a new character. We leveled her up through the console, and set all the quests she had completed to done. And it worked!

I'm in the same situation, but in the NG+ with my girlfrend, and i don't want to restart the game from the beginning.
There is a fast way to go to NG+ ?

Just as a small mention, I had this same problem several times in a row and then we decided to just move to Path of Exile.

I only had minor freezing but i think it was mostly my processor.

Twoooo, we had that as well, but this was very different. My game would stop completely, and hers would continue without issue. The minor freezing was actually caused by our wifi.

me and my friend having exactly this same issue... we use few mods and have same order for them and so are the versions of the mods... so any working fix?

The only known fix is to figure out who exactly is causing the issue (chances are, the person who levels it the one who is the issue) and remake their character from scratch.
