Transmuting
When is the transmuting going to not be so terrible? the only worthwhile thing you can do is make slots on items. When can you maybe, give 3 gems to get a new gem of the next tier? Just wondering because I keep giving 3 gems and keep getting same gem of same tier over and over.
Making the transmuter absolutely useless, (otherthan the make a slot function) which is very annoying too me. Oh joy I can give him 3 health pots and get the next tier health pot, but not for gems. WTF?! How does that make any sense? Why would they even do that? I love this game. But come on...

Oh, and sometimes I use higher level gems, like lvl 22 gems for example, I hit transmute and it gives me a lvl 8 gem back... WHY?!?

Use gems of the same level.

I transmute to try to get the gems that i want / need or to try to get a unique item that i can use. I also transmute spells

These changes were intentional. Three of the same for a higher one was the only thing you could do with gems in the first game, and since the way they work is that you're not allowed to place and remove gems in items without breaking something, what ended up happening is that people often refused to use gems just to try to stack them up to wait and make better ones (which might be hoarded again and again). Meaning that a lot of them aren't even being used.

They re-did the crafting system so that doesn't happen anymore. If you get a good gem, you use it. If you get gems you don't like, you still put them together to draw a random one.

And they also re-did how you get gems and in what level, to go with this new idea. In the first game, you pretty much only got them in rank 1 or 2. Here, you already get your gems scaled to the level of the section.

Please take your time to understand all of this, it's actually kinda interesting.

Yeah it's a big improvement over the gem system in the first game. I really like it this way, just get 3 gems of the same lvl and transmute them if you dont like the stats on the gem and want to gamble a new one

I was using lvl 22 gems as an example, I wanted a lvl next tier gem and the 3 level 22 gems transmuted to a lvl 8 gem.

I understand it was intentional, which is even more of a boggle. But I really hope someone can release a mod, because I really don't like it in its current state. 3 for 1 next tier, not 3 for same tier, or 3 for 1 of the tiers below. that's retarded!

I just wish I could remove the gem from one weapon and put it into another one.
Rat_Attack Mar 4, 2013 @ 6:01pm
You can, but the weapon is destroyed, so there's really nothing wrong with it how it is atm imo.
And the loot drops like crazy, so you can always find better stuff. So there's nothing wrong with that as it is.

3 don't make a strong one because now you don't need to do that to get a strong one. In the first game, that wasn't simply how you got them; that was the ONLY way you got them.

You're not killing level 60 monsters to get level 1 gems to transmute them into high-level gems now. You're killing level 60 monsters to get level 60 gems. With that, I don't see the problem with not being able to make 3 weak into one strong anymore.

And if you COULD do just that, you probably wouldn't even be able to use the strong gem until you got through enough of the game to have monsters simply drop that gem, because gems have an item level requirement. You'd get the gem and it'd need your gear to be like, 15 levels higher?

So are you saying I need a fourth 22 gem to make a better one? And putting in 3 lvl 22 gems make a same tier or weaker tier? I played Torchlight 1 also, alot, and the transmuter wasn't broke like the one in this game. I'd get high lvl and use every collected gem and transmute them all to higher gems, I see nothing wrong with that method. Why couldn't they just 3 or possibly 4 make it same gem? The random gem thing is stupid I like certain gems, the randomness is a bad thing imo.

And we could argue about this for days, until our faces went blue. But this is a casual fun game, and I like to have fun. And I don't like getting items to transmute for something I don't want. THAT ISN'T FUN! Just saying, if you disagree w/e different playstyles gl to you.

You can. The little goblin/gremlin-looking dude in town named Gorn the Gem Saver can destroy an old item to recover the gem socketed in said item.

You can use the transmuter to also get spells, 2 spells = 1 random spell of the average level. Get unique items, 4 uniques = 1 random unique of the average level. And get set parts, 2 set items = 1 random set item of the average level.
The unique one is kind of a waste, better of trading with a friend or putting them in the shared stash for other toons, but giving away duplicated spells or set items to try to get one you can use is pretty useful.
