Shotgun/Pistol as Engineer
Hi all, Im really new to this Torchlight series and so the thing is, im a summoner engi (only got heal bot so far >.>) and when i use the pistol it barely scratches enemies but when i wield cannon itpacks a PUNCH. i dont know whats on or what the weapon damage seems close enough but such difference on actual effects, (ive checked Kardfogus guide but still dont understand XD), is the weapons specially class based or something?
Dun wanna get high dexerity if it doesnt pay. But really like the shotgun AND bots :p.
Thanks. Rabbles

Ehlo m8 :)

shotguns and pistols r mainly outlander gear since they can spec in it - engineer has a cannon spec.

If you focus on summoning it's likely that pretty soon you won't do a lot of damage with your weapon anyway, no matter what type. The shotgun has a wide firing arc though, so what you could do is get one with a high attack speed and as much -% to all armor as possible and just hit as many enemies as you can. That way your Gunbot and Sledgebot will be much more effective.

I see. I suppose there is no harm for me to up my dexerity or focus instead of strength or vitality then? That won't affect my minion damage anyhow? Thanks in advance!

One thing I like about this game is you are not limited to specific gear for specific classes. Outlander has skills in its trees to increase the gun damage but they are definitely NOT specific to the class only. You really need to put some serious thought into your character and decide WHAT you want it to be. They are all viable even IF your goal is to make the most unviable class in the TL2 universe. If you want to use guns that will be fine. Pistols are pea shooters typically and you will need to rely on various statistics that come with them. I enjoy saving my basilisk eyes to put on them. That way more procs are going off. If you can find one(or two if you want to dual weild) that have stuns that is a bonus for summoning engineer. Also as a summoner you will likely be stacking much more statistic points into focus so dual wielding would be more preferable for the executes. Also make sure your pistols have elemental attacks to boost the elemental damage rather than the physical portion of the wepons damage (which is probably why your pistols seem to not be doing much). But if you want more punch on pistols boost strength to get more physical damage. It is all about your build. Think and plan properly and your misery will be minimized at higher NG+++ difficulties (if you go that way).

I know I mostly stated pistols above but it also applies for canons and shotgonnes as well (though you cant dual wield them) Shotgonnes usually have similar requirements as pistols while canons require more strength to use. Figure out what specific type of damage you want to be dealing (since nothing is immune to any resist check, yet.) and focus on that specific statistic for the most part. Use diablo 2 rules also if your a veteran player with loads of gear options and only put points in other stats when gear/wepons requires it to equip (should you not meet level req) and sink the rest into either foc(for ele) or str(for phys). And you wont need a mod or app to alter the game for anything.

This is the answer to my question. I thank you for your time and effort in this answer. You are awesome.
