How can i play online with mods?

Hi. I tried to play tl2 online and via lan with some friends. We have some mods installed (same mods ofc) but we can't join eachother in the match. We are able to see the game (by clicking on the friend list) but we are unable to join it. Via lan (with hamachi) we can't even see the match. Any idea? Thank you

The key to playing online with mods is three parts :


One : Both of you have the same mods with same version
Two : place same mods in the same LOAD order on mod initiation screen on all computers playing the game.
Optional third part : You can skip this part and play new characters with no mods OR if you have pre-existing characters you need to find your torchlight save folder and copy/paste your characters into the torchlight mod folder and Vice Versa when you no longer want the mods. Some mods bind the the characters so you wont be able to backtrack out so be wise and have backups and do some testing

Presto chango your torchlight now works with mods, Enjoy

Just stumbled upon the same problem! Tried everything, but nothing of that worked.
But then I realized that (in our case) everyone had to have the same localization options! (we couldn't connect russian and english versions with mods).
Now we both switched to Russian and it works! yay!
Of course, load orders, same mods and all other stuff above was done correctly ^^

Basically this game is properly fixed so that you can never play online with random players with mods. They will not inform of you of this anywhere. Suffer well.
