2. You should see a folder with random numbers like 73948273492837\, copy it
3. Go back, go to Torchlight 2\modsave\ and paste the copied folder there. If modsave\ doesn't exist, just create it.
4. Regular TL2 will save/load to/from save\ and modded TL2 will use modsave\

edit: looks like I'm a little late. Anyway, this works, I already tested.
character played with mods = cannot play with everyone else without mods !
backup you saves before playing any of them in the post-patch game !
once you loaded this save you won't be able to swap between save/modsave anymore, the game updates and flags your character "this player has used mods" and it won't load anymore in a non mod game, and since multiplayer modded games with the actual idiotic system is going nowhere (you cannot connect to 99,999999% of the players because eevryone uses different mods) i strongly suggest you play your "real" characters in the non-mod game and start new ones or copies of your old in the mod environnement
