Skull of Limoany

Hey, I am in NG+ elite with my engineer and the damage spikes are starting to get pretty bad. The skull of Limoany is a great gem that has 5% decrease to all damage intake. I started farming the first maps, level 55 and I haven't seen one after 3 hours.

Where do these skulls drop? Has anyone found one? I am interested in hearing any tips. Is it smart to be doing these low level map runs to find some?

It's a level 55 skull, which means it can drop on maps within the level range of 53 - 62. That means, once you hit level 63, you can only get it from level 48 - 55 MW maps or early NG+ areas. The absolutely best way to find skulls is opening the blue glowing chests in temple or crypt areas. These chests have like a 4% chance of dropping a skull. If the area level is 55, there's about a 20% chance of that skull being a Limoany skull.

Lots of luck, and I mine the 48-55 MW maps ad infinitun with about +150 plus magic and 150% plus gold. Total could be close to 30+ maps. The GF is OK but in over 30 runs I have found exactly 2 skulls and neither of them have been Limoany.

But I had it. For one short moment, it was mine. I've come to terms with my karma

I found 1 Limoany skull in my first run through the lower lvls but I did not appreciate its significance so I ..... SOLD IT. Last one I ever saw. I am at NG+5 and have run every Mapworks lvl 48-55 map I could purchase. .. Nada.

Oh I have a 9 pieces that are my MF gear (No Mf on board) and even my LF wand has 4 sockets for lucky die (all 4 and 5%). The rest of the gear is socketed with LF and enchanted with LF. My total LF is 150%. Well, 140 but I only run the +10 MF maps lvl 48-55. Reminds me of Dino, he put in almost 4000 hrs before he finally got a Legendary drop. Just RND bad luck, I guess.

The mod The Adventure Mart adds a merchant in the Esterian Enclave, selling high-level gear and unique socketables, among them the mentioned Skull of Liomnay. Another way to get them is to transmute chaos ember into chaotic inscriptions. When "read" (right click), the chaotic inscription has a certain chance of spawning a unique socketable, but the chances to get the exactly needed socketable are quite low, but if you stack many low-chance possibilities you should in theory increase your chances of getting the desired item.

Ive accidentally found a great place to farm these skulls. It involves phase beast farming, which seems unpopular with players, but at least this one is not as tedious as igniting braziers

Goto the frosted hills on NG+ and locate a phasebeast. From what i can see, only two types of challenges spawn on this map: Ignite braziers in order, and Protect the Crystals From the Goblin Hordes. The latter one is the one you need.

If you manage to protect all four crystals, you get four blue lvl 62 chests, just at the upper cap of a limoany drop. These chests are one of the few things that can possibly spawn a skull. The challenge can be completed in under a minute, and I dont think someone can get four blue chests per minute faster than through this challenge.

The third crystal is tricky to protect since a ton of goblins are standing around it when you enter. For an embermage with hailstorm and frost phase it should be no problem, though

As a byproduct, farming this challenge nets you a ton of lvl 58-65 uniques, as well as an opportunity to perfect your highridge set collection. It also gets you a ton of cash, especially if you pick everything up and have your pet on a permanent townrunrotation. Lastly, you will also get a lot of Nephanic (20% goldfind) skulls here.I dont think i'll ever leave NG+ with this char :p

Lastly, i think i gathered about 8-10 Limoany skulls in three days of casual farming. Ive not been the most efficient about it though.

Got 9 Limoanys, 5 Meerkos, 4 Nephanics, The Centerwing and like 1.2 million gold out of it now.

And yes, ive used Rapid Respec to reset NG+3 to NG+1 just to be able to farm this spot.
Feels bad to have to do so, but either this or starting a new champ...

just a general question....how many of these things do you socket? I hate parting with my DPS sockets or lower any of the elemental resists but I guess these lil skulls are too good to pass.

Got no experience in this game to judge about needed min. values myself, but i frequently read that 75% damage reduction is far too good to pass on.
75% damage reduction + Shield...?
May be too much, i dont know, but going to find out soon...
If that turns out to be too much defence i probably would switch to dual wield first and still keep all those limoany skulls socketed.

Damage reduction caps at 75%. Melee characters (Berserker and Engineer) already has 25% so you only need 10 for those 2 classes.
