1 - Pets are mostly for utility and not damage dealing. Your pet will never die, but if it reaches critically low health it will run around aimlessly until you either give it a potion or it regenrates a little health after a few seconds. There are 3 equipment slots for the pet you can view by opening the pet tab with "P".
2 - Leveling does not get "harder" but there are some higher level enemies that need to be dealt with differently than some others. The stat points you get 5 of per level are used to increase your overall stat pool whereas the skill points you get 1 of per level.. well, they go into increasing your skills.
3 - I am unsure what you mean by secondary attack stat, do you mean the attack that is bound by default to right click?
4 - No. Both melee and ranged are perfectly able to wreck entire rooms quickly and easily when played well.
5 - The only thing you really NEED to buy from the shops in my opinion are health and mana potions if you're playing on elite. The vendor does sell nice blue items from time to time though.
6 - Yes. There is a weapon swap feature so you can have two sets of weapons "equipped" at once but only have one set out. Assuming you mean skills as the secondary attacks, you can use them whenever as long as you have the proper item in hand. (Some attacks are limited to cannons only or 2 handers only ...)
7 - If you feel it's too facerolly then play on a higher difficulty. If normal elite still doesn't cut it, play hardcore mode.
8 - It's a loot-based game, so having items equipped is a must. Any stats that boost your survivability or damage output are most desired. Stats like increased gold drop are usually bad and should not be a sought after stat.
9 - Personal preference. I play alone most of the time but only because not a lot of people play hardcore mode.
10 - Gobbling potions is percectly normal and early on is about the only way to get your health back quickly. Potions just drop randomly so just buy more if you're running out.
Your pet can also be sent to town to sell all of its inventory items for you and buy basic potions.
2. Leveling up does take more time later in the game. However, there are two types of leveling you earn, basic leveling up from agining enough experience and prestiege, which is gained from defeating certain bosses and completing quests. When you earn enough prestiege you gain one free skill point.
3. Your secondary attack is your other main mouse move, but you can also slot potions and skills into the skill bar at the bottom of the screen by left clicking on the slot and then clicking on the skill/item you want to put there. The skills are used by the coresponding number keys.
4. While each class does play differently (especially some modded classes), you are not disadvantaged by using a melee character. For example, the DPS class the Berzerker has a skill that summons a shadow wolf that attacks enemies, so even if you are primarily a melee class you can use ranged skills. In addition, any class can pretty much use any weapon, though some classes have preferences towards specific weapon types and their skills may require them to be used. For example, to use some of the Engineer's skills (who is the tank/support class) you must have a shotgun or greathammer equipped. You do, hewever, have two weapon slots that you can switch between. I personally like to have a melee weapon in the first slot and a ranged weapon in the second slot.
5. In my experiences usually loot that you gain from drops and mobs is good enough, though from time to time some shops may have better gear or spell scrolls that you would want to pick up, like a healing scroll for example. I would check on what shops offer from time to time, though I think it is a personal preference to do so. In addition, mods like Synergies increase the game's difficulty but also rebalance the skill trees and give you better loot and new monsters to fight. It's an excellent mod once you get used to the game.
6. Yes, you can switch between weapon slots, I believe with the W key by default since the game is mouse driven. They can use the skills and secondary attacks for that weapon type, so if you switch from a melee to a ranged weapon it will also switch to let you use any ranged skills you have specced into.
7. Nope, that's pretty much it. But the combat is really good because everything explodes :D!
8.Yes, items are important to equip and you can mouse over them to see their properites. Magic find is an important property because it increases the chance that rarer items will drop. Gold find increases gold drops so you can earn more money.
9. I would perosnally play it alone though you can play it in co op, though the server browser has a history of being finicky with connections. The number of players does increase the nearby monster count and the amount of loot you can earn, and each player gets their own loot so you don't have to scramble and argue over it.
10. It is normal to use potions, and some potions can do more things than just health and mana regeneration. I do not believe you necessarily find more potions automat.ically if you use more, but your pet can buy them for you and they aren't very expensive. As far as iI'm aware your pet will also use some of any junk you give ti to pay ofr the items as well.
hope i helped
Yeah, sorry for keeping you up. The sloppy writing kinda gave it away.
