Synergies vs Essentials?
Synergies vs Essentials?
Hey guys,

Ive been trying these two mods out a bit and cant really figure out which one to stick with. They are both pretty nice. What's your opinion on these two mods? And more importantly, can i load both mods without any game breaking conflicts? Will they wok multiplayer?

I'd go for essentials. I just cant see the appeal for synergies tbh. It just makes the game so boring, it gives every mob like 5x HP and every boss 50x HP without making it any harder and just drags out combat forever unless you use a cookie cutter build.

Synergies is meant to be played on veteran or elite and is quite difficult during endgame. Have you actually played a long time on synergies or did you just start a character on normal for synergies? BTW i'd go with synergies and add a few of the individual mods you want from essentails

One is an Overhaul and the other is a collection of highly useful tweaks. I'll take the one that sticks closest to the original game, thank you very much.
I would get both honestly, I tried both out the other guy and they worked great together. I also recommend The Far East mods, they are amazing.

I liked Essentials way more personally.
Synergies gives the mobs crazy health and it just take longer to do anything.
They both have alot of extra content and a new class or 2 so really they are both worth checking out.

My pick is don't even bother with Torchlight 2, but if you insist: Essentials.

Essentials is a mod pack with a billion mods that make Torchlight 2 suck less.

Synergies is a mod that makes the game tediously long for nothing, without fixing any of it's inherent problems.

Even though this is old and none of you probably play TL2 anymore, but for the people (like me) who googled Synergies vs [insert mod here], go for Synergies. You can simply install a "lowpop" mod to bring the number of enemies down close to Vanilla levels, while still maintaining the challenge of Synergies.

The mod isnt about the leveling process, nope.

Edit: And regarding mobs, your last ability on the skill bar is now unlocked at level _16_ . Not level 42, this is to allow players to remain in the game and not get overwhelmed by monsters.

It's about what comes after. You can play without it (Vanilla, Unearrthed Arcana or Essentials) and when you get to a point where you want to partake in a real challenge, just Sub to Synergies. 95% of the content it provides is for levels 95 and up, though 100 is recommended.

I've consoled one character to 100, consoled some gold and tried out the content it provides, and damn was it fulfilling. The bosses have interesting mechanics, there are completely new animations, textures, tactics, EVERYTHING. End game crafting is a blast, Bosses drop crafting materials and "trash" mobs drop items that will allow you to survive better. When you're leveling, you'll notice a place called "TableMountain", that's the place you use to access the REAL content of Synergies. Beware though - it contains Vendors and Enchanters that may seem lucrative to abuse, at a low level of 50 min requirements. They sell gear you'll absolutely need when you hit that level 100 and want to continue your journey, without playing the game through agan, again..again...and again. Synergies also has tens of new sets and hundreds of new items.

If you are mostly interested in what Synergies provides, you can play thorugh the game once and then go to Selrock, a mid-level hub that has:

- Bounty quests for "world bosses"
- Kill x amount of y in z
- Bring item x from enemy hero/champion/boss located in y

These work like normal quests, with Fame, Gold and XP rewards + An item reward scaled to your level. (No uniques though).

Selrock provides a smooth leveling process after playing through the campaign.

An alternative is The Realms of Discord, an endless dungeon that scales to your level and features normal mobs, chests, breakables, bosses, heroes and special "bosses" that drop a portal in another level of Discord.

What "Vanilla like" mods like Unearthed Arcana, TL2 Essentials etc do is enhance the core gameplay - what Synergies lacks. Those are the mods you want to use when you're not interested in additional content later on and want to experience the "real" TL2, with NG+, Mapworks expansions and a smoother, more polished TL2 Experience.

There is "Adventure Pack 2" only for single player.

Challenging yourself with "Torchfun Part 1" on the much higher New Game + can be very fun. I recommend using powerful mods like LAO 2.0.

There is also "LAO III" if you need to extend the game into higher New Game all the way to +33 and it works for multiplayer.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=791856602&searchtext=lao

There is also the "Abysm" endless dungeon.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=446621607&searchtext=abysm

There is also the fun but crashy small room- many foes mod: Dungeon Challenge.

There are other mod packs similar to Essentials like these below:

Remember to back up copy paste your SVB character save files to another folder because some mods will "bind".

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=144038875&searchtext=combine

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=795690198&searchtext=vanilla

Spicy is still trying to fix it's multiplayer issues so it's only single player for now.

Nice response.

So, I just no install Synergies in early game, just in endgame?

I have been playing Synergies + Essentials , and i dont have crash or conflicts to this point.

But, if a choose one, i just keep playing the game with Essentians, then i go to Synergies in endgame, and desselect Essentials from my mod order?

( Sorry for my possible bad english, im a brazilian Torchligth fan )

It's best to use both however if Essentials is removed then the character will lose items from Essentials if the character is loaded without Essentials and this is also true for Synergies.

If using a Class from Synergies (like Nerco or Warlock) then they can only be used with Synergies.

I recommend using both as Essentials should be able to run with Synergies.
