Where are our characters stored?

Do we need to backup files on our local PC? Or are the characters saved on Runic's servers?

Why you asking ? Also you can look it up in your local files anyway if there's no indication for your characters stored then its on the Runic's servers.

I am planning on getting a new PC in the next two months and I want to make sure that I don't lose my progress. I have my entire Steam folder and game library backed up to CrashPlan - hopefully that is enough to allow me to recover from any PC transfers or crashes.

Your unmodded saved characters and stash files are located here:
C:\Users\{Username\Documents\my games\runic games\torchlight 2\save\
Your modded saved characters and stash files are located here, if you use mods:
C:\Users\{Username}\Documents\my games\runic games\torchlight 2\modsave\

I would backup those folders, run Torchlight 2 on the new computer once to create the necessary files, and then paste them into the right folders on the new computer.
