List of gamebreaking / altering Linux bugs and fixes
It seems we have a semi bad port to linux for Torchlight 2. I'm making this thread so I can compile all of the problems and hopefully solutions in one place. If you have any other issues please post them here and I will put them in the starting thread. Please also post your system specs. This will help to determine if it's a problem with a particular hardware set.

Starting with the worst error so far.

1.) Game crashes when loading into a new area.

- 2 reported game crashing when loading into frosted hills.
- 1 report on crashing when loading the 2nd level of the first dungeon
- 2 After character creation of outlander class when loading start area.

2.) Game menus don't render or render incorrectly.

This has a reported fix here http://steamcommunity.com/app/200710/discussions/0/610574106420376607/

Help me please lol
I'm getting the same errors. I was also unable to progress past the first quest without using the command console. (The quest giver had absolutely nothing for me.)
I can't load into certain places and 1 class isn't playable. I did some research and found this problem has existed since launch. The developers have let this slide for 3 years now. This is the last torchlight game I'm purchsing from them.

I believe you have to use their official forum for bug posting, it's in a sticky on here.

I have seen where a lot of the ATI/AMD cards have been having issues with their drivers with this game and a number of other games.

I haven't ran into this issue at all I'm running on Manjaro the latest 3.18 kernel and Geforce GTX 660 346.xx nvidia proprietary drivers. I've played all the way through without issues twice now. I was running this game initially on Linux Mint 17.1 with the 3.16 kernel and 340.xx nvidia drivers and only ran into some slight performance issues during a heavy mob loaded area. But with Manjaro I have a lot less of a performance hit so far.
Drivers are fine and the game will play but then starts exiting on load ins. There is clearly a problem with their core coding. This game should still be in Beta until bugs like that are worked out. Seems the developer just ignored the bug because it was happening to a smaller percent of players .... for shame,
I've had 2 seemingly random crashes to desktop on Ubuntu-Mate 14.04 with a GTX 980, Nvidia 346.47 drivers. And once the game locked up my entire system, hand to hard reboot which sucked. Those 3 crashes happened over the course of about 5 hours of gameplay, so it's not too bad at all, thankfully the game auto saves very often which is good.

Other than that, the game seems to run VERY well, it's a good port. Might need to patch for bloom performance but other than that, solid.
It's not like a normal crash the game is literally peforming a clean exit.

Try running it in wine. I have the game working through steam on wine. I"m using linux mint 17.1 but I don't know if that really makes a difference. The developer needs to fix this or at least address the issue. I notice this isn't even on there bug list.
Also suffering from the Frosted Hills Crash, and some very peculiar particle bugs.

What you mean by clean exit?

That the game follows normal shutdown procedure, instead of crashing, i.e. not shutting down properly and returning an error signal.
I bought this game last night was enjoying it up till the game just locks up in the same place. I got a quest had to go into a dungeon or something this. Anyway all is fine till i try access the 2nd lvl of the dungeon. Soon as i click on the entrance game just sticks on loading screen and i have to power off my PC to get out of it.

I later ported back to town and ran back to the same dungeon starting over and again soon as i clicked on the 2nd lvl game locked up on screen again. Tried this 5 times now allways the same result.

All my other games Borderlands, metro last light and so on run perfect.

I'm glad i got it in the sale for just 3£ cause i just cant progres. I will try make a new char from scratch see what happens.

Bad port maybe?

Let me know if you find a fix. Since steam won't issue a refund I'm going to try to find a fix or work around.
