Low spec Intel graphics. Can somebody do a test?
Hi,

I would like to ask anybody who has this game and possibly notebook with either Intel GMA 950 or GMA 3150 graphics if (s)he can tryt o run this game on that notebook. It would be great if the notebook was running some Linux OS (not required).

I want to buy this game, but I would like to know how it performs on such very low-end graphics.

Please if you own this game and one of specified graphics, could you try it for me?

Thanks

Playing on Linux isn't going to happen since neither of those chips support OpenGL 2. I've seen a video on Youtube where someone did manage to get Torchlight II to "run" in Windows on a GMA 3150 but frames per second ranged from just 4 to 12 at best. And that was early game before there's much happening graphically; it'll get worse late game. Sorry, but it's unlikely that this game will run well enough on that hardware to be playable.

In fact GMA 3150 supports OpenGL 2.0 on Linux exclusively (on Windows only 1.4 or 1.5, not sure right now), there may be a little need for hand tuning fo 2.0 to work, but nothing big.

The video may look pretty bad... but the uploader says "quite playable" and it looks so. (Believe me, I have played many games on that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hardware... When you simply want to play you just lower your own requirements for framerate - if the game permits it, you can't play shooter with 5fps).

If there is anybody here who can really try it, could you tell me your own experience? And graphics settings used when testing...

From the video I just saw, I may give it a shot anyway...

I have bought the game and tested it myself. I'm running Gentoo Linux on Intel Atom N455 + Intel GMA3150 graphics. System is almost up-to-date including drivers. I have tweaked local_settings.txt file, set netbook mode on, lowered evyrything to get highest performance.

Game menu: <1fps
Game itself (starting village): 2fps (it seems so, haven't done any benchmark)

I have tried switching MESA from classic to gallium, but that made things even worse.

I didn't get numbers anywhere near those in video (look for it few posts higher). Suppose it could be because: A) I'm running Linux, B) I have only N455 (single core), c) I have overlooked something important in the local_settings.txt

C) is not probable, A) is probable as the B) is.

Anyway - the game is unplayale on this setup. I will give it a try though, we will se after some time spent in the game.

(glxinfo says I have OpenGL 2.1 card, the GMA3150 may have official ssupport for it but lack the computing power to use it)

Do the current workshop mods work on the linux version? If so, try this mod for reducing particle effects.

Also if you haven't tried it already you can reduce max_particles in the local_settings file that you tweaked. Try going as low as 1000

I will try it! Particles are reduced to 100 (one hundred) already ;-)

The mod doesn't improve the framerate for me. What a shame... I thought I would play the game on my netbook... I won't probably play it on my desktop (it's not THAT big game for me to play it on main PC). But I give full credits to the devs - This game looks just like my genre. And has Linux support! Good job. I'm glad I bought the game. I may give it a shot someday on main gaming rig.

If the devs looks this way - Torchlight 1 for Linux on Steam? ;-)
