Hooray! Level 100 Outlander!
Now I'll never touch him again!

For those who want to avoid, do NOT go Physical bow Outlander with a focus on Dex and Venemous Hail and Netherbeast. It is unfun and painful.

You will be paper thin. Even when i realized that I was wasting dex and pumped it all into Vit it was too little and just didnt matter in NG+

Way too much dex since Dodge seems to be useless. Especially if there are tons of mobs around.

Since I was kiting lots especially for bosses, netherbeastand my pet were useless. They spent all their time following the boss who was always aggroed on me not the pets. Not sure what I needed to do to make the pets get aggro but they couldnt keep it to save my life. Netherbeast would run behind the bad guys who were chasing me for the entreity of his spawn time. :\

Still dont like the loot mechanism for unmodded games, ng+ bosses dropping potions and green items. :(

Now back to syngeries where I was having fun! :)

I can't believe you bothered to level such a weak character to level 100.
By that level, you should be tanking and one-shotting everything (bosses excluded).

Although to be fair, shooty Outlanders are easily gimped if built wrong.

As it stands, there seems to be no reason to pick a (cross)bow over a firearm - unfortunately. If you go Venemous Hail, you want a pistol or shotgonne, get ~100-120 DEX (i think 113 is the magic number of diminishing returns) and put everything else in STR.

So, you had realised you're putting all of your points into 'worthless' stat and then decided to put points into one that is even worse?

Apparently. Venemous Hail killed most things almost immediately as long as I got the drop on them. Except bosses and I figured I needed to kite them anyways. Since i was dying really fast I figured it was a health issue and dropped points into Vit. You know for armor and hit points but it didnt matter how much armor or life or resists I had.

Really though I grew to dislike Venemous Hail since it reduced gameplay to, Get mobs to edge of screen, fire off Venemous Hail, and wait to see what was left, usually nothing.

As for the bow xbow over firearm, i think it was a style decision.

Also, my only legendary, Phenomena, was a bow. Evetually jettisoned it around level 93 for a faster gold bow.

And the rng for this game trolled me very hard, I got tons of items that would have been very nice but were engineer or beserker only. Very few drops that were Outlander only. :\

Oh well. playing an embermage now and she skates through stuff. Havent event spent all her skill points as they just arent needed. All I spend on is Focus and a little Vit.

Yes, it's known among the community well. Armor doesn't scale well and 3.6hp per 1 Vit is a joke. People invest into Vit because of shield block bonus. If a character doesn't wear a shield then every point into Vit is basically wasted.

Not sure what you mean - that it was your decision based on style, or that is generally a style decision.
Generally, bow/xbow got range, shotgonne got aoe and pistol got shield. In my opinion, shield wins.

Good luck.
Outlander also skates through stuff, it's just you did it wrong a little. My first character on elite also was the bowlander, so I can feel for you here :)

Playing Melee on Elite scares me too much. What with Large Mobs and the annoying knockback walk near problem. So yeah Outlander was at least decent as a ranged character. Also you're forgetting the Execute Pistol Builds but meh that build istelf is risky enough as is with unshielded builds. Running the typical Shotgonne Outlander decked out with Rapid Fire & Venomous Hailstorm. And the common assortment of skills dumped into the rest. The only hard points I really faced was that Genie Segment where you had to stay in the light or you'd die and leaving to town would mean starting over from the first part.

Elite is knowing when to run and when to spam your skills anyway though.

@ r00k3ry9
Yeah. Thats what I liked with what they fixed in Synergies balancing out loot for Elite Difficulty.

I'm not, actually. I just consider Akimbo builds unsavoury for elite and maybe even for veteran. TL2 gameplay encourages you to spam skills. Execute requires you to autoattack. If executes worked on skills it would've beed discussable which is better - 2handed or DW with execute. Right now 2handed wins.

Personally, I think Outlander performs a lot better if you play him as a mage, not as a ranged class. Max focus, max +%poison passive, throw glaves, get a wand and a shield. A classic build back from release days.

I've seen people doing melee HC embermages on elite, btw :) With dual claws, no less.

All to their own. I slogged it all the way using the harder "Staple" Build on it. What I found curious was on the Last Runic Games Patch (The April 1) They even added an entire EmberMage Set that required you have mostly points entirely in Focus and a Wand that dealth all four damages. When I saw that It was like they themselves even confirmed about the OP PB Embermages Build xD

PB isn't OP, it's just a very easy and straightforward build with zero gear dependance. I think frost wave is better dps-wise.

Well its definitely one of the easier Cookie Cutter Builds to work with. Once I got to NG+ I respec'd by Embermage to my original build of a Fire Focused Embermage that used Firestorm & Magma Spear. Since it reminded me alot of the Firestorm/Hellfire Build I ran with in Hellgate London. In fact TL shares alot of similar spells/skills from HG:L since they're mostly the same devs.

DEX caps at 109 base stats, putting anyother points into it would be useless, i think (not sure) Vhail scales with focus, but you might wanna check that

This statement is false.

It's a popular opinion that Outlander can reach the DODGE cap (75%) with as low as 110 dex due to his passive abilities, but that requires:
  • Dodge mastery (+2% per level, so +30% total... in the end-game (sic!))
  • Charge bonus (+10% if charge is maxed). Can be improved with Share the Wealth, up to +18% when full charge and maxed passive itself. Not counting the fact that unless you're a glaive focuslander you'll have a hard time keeping your charge.
  • 110 dex is something around +19.6% dodge chance
Total: ~68%. Still not capped, unless I messed up with numbers somewhere.
That's not even counting crit chance and fumble recovery.

There's also a popular opinion that 110 dex is a softcap after which diminishing returns kick in. That's also false. Diminishing returns are always in effect.

r00k3ry9 Feb 24, 2015 @ 12:05pm
Whichever, Dodge never seemed to work right to me. Mobs would throw all sorts of stuff at me and hit every time.
Val Feb 24, 2015 @ 12:27pm
Dodge only works on autoattacks, melee or ranged. For everything else - use Shadowmantle.

When I said caps I meant to say was that for specifically outlanders, I always found having 109 stat points in it was sufficient enough, because you'll get the % boost from you passive in addition to gear+stones u put in your end level items, but after 109, your better off putting it in str. (was my fault for not fully explaining what I meant >.< ). As for the cap i believe i read somewhere that it was 475?? then its just becomes useless to pour points into it, i 'll see if i can find the link that explains it all.
