Level 20 Outlander Build
Hey, I recently purchased the game and I am a level 20 Outlander. I got to say, it is a really fun and addicting game. Honestly though, I have no clue what the heck I am doing. I just put random things together and choosing random places to place my stats points, and I feel this is going to come and stab me in the back later in the game if I don't fix this soon. I am approaching level 21 I barely used any Skill Points (I have 18 still) in fear of choosing the wrong things, knowing that Skill Points aren't going to be too easy to get eventually. So my first and biggest question, what skills should I aim for? Also what should I be investing my Stat Points into?

Any help is appreciated, I really just want to be able to enjoy the game later on instead of realizing that I screwed up when it is already too late.

Thanks!

Welcome! I've just turned lvl 100 on my outlander. Are you looking to use any specific weapon (eg: Shogunne, Dual Pistols, Bow)? Maybe we can start from there.

Hey! Thanks so much. Very sorry for my late reply. I currently use a sword and a crossbow, though I am not insiting that I use these types of weapons. I really don't mind which weapons I use, I am just looking for any set that will allow me to play a fun game without running into massive trouble late on. (Congrats on level 100)

I recommend either using a shotgonne or pistol and shield. Put most of your hard points into strength and some into dexterity. Try to stack dexterity enchantments with Borris in order to wield ranged weapons. If using a shield, vitality enchantments will improve block chance.

Gambling is the best way to improve gear. When looking for weapons, the relatively expensive ones are almost guaranteed to be uniques (most unique weapons also have odd prices).

Finally, you can't go wrong with Venomous Hail and Chaos Burst. Rapid Fire is also good, with shotgonnes being the best weapon type to pair it with. I also recommend Repulsion Hex, Shadowmantle, Share the Wealth, Poison Burst, and Shotgonne Mastery. Skills to avoid include Akimbo, Long Range Mastery, Dodge Mastery, Master of the Elements, and all the "shadowling" skills.

Skulls to look out for include Limoany (+5% damage reduction) and Riechliu (+1540 HP). It took me about 5 hours to find 7 Limoanys and 14 Riechluis.

With this advice I don't think you can go wrong.

Basically, outlander has two basic builds - glaive thrower and shooter.
If you choose the former, then go with shattering glaive(15) as main attack, sandsrom(10-15)/glaive throw(1-15) for charge generation and crowd control, rune vault(1-15/burning leap(15) for escape and mobility, stone pact(15) for healing, shadow mantle(15) for missile deflection, bramble wall(15) for aggro and territory control and cursed daggers(15) for debuffing enemy's damage.
Base stats:
strength - no points there, dexterity - just enough for a decent crit chance (I go with 107 - 20%), vitality - depends on a endgame shield you'll use (with parma's coal burner you need around 100 vit and blocking 6 spell to hit the block cap), the rest goes into focus.
Gear: armor with +hp +focus +crit damage/+cast speed, and a shield of your choosing. Weapon dps doesn't matter, it's just a statstick for glaiver, so pick +crit damage/+cast speed.
Keep in mind that despite shattering glaive and sandstorm deal "physical" damage, the game counts it as magic damage and scales it with focus. Another important fact is crit damage cap being 500% with 50% being innate bonus. You'll have to decide whether you'll focus on cast speed or crit damage.
If you choose the latter, then your choise is rapid fire(15)/chaos burst(15) as close combat skill, venomous hail(15) as all-purpose attack, rune vault(1-10)/burning leap(15) for escape and mobility, repulsion hex(15) for crowd control, stone pact(15) for healing, shadow mantle(15) for missile deflection, bramble wall(10-15) for aggro and territory control. Also, if you go with shotguns then shotgun mastery(15) is your choice - lots of knockback and blindlocking.
This is where the shooty build splits into 3: physical dps, spelltrigger, DoT.
Base stats for physical dps and spelltrigger:
shotgun/bow/crossbow/dual wield (basically no shield). Dexterity - enough for decent crit chance (I go with 107 again), focus - no points, vitality - no points, strength - rest of points go there.
Sidearm + shield. Dex - look above, foc - look above, vit - enough to hit the block cap (again, 100 with parma's coal burner, more with others), str - look above.
Base stats for DoT: put all your stat points into focus.
Gear for physical dps: armor with +hp +str is your choice for physical shooter. Keep in mind that at around 1000 str(enchantments) a character hits critical damage cap and thus further increase in str gains you just weapon damage bonus. Weapons (I only use shotguns, so cannot tell about other weapon types) - bloom's margin with 486 dex required (480 with ranged mastery 6 spell) or neterrealm shotgun with 364 (358 with ranged 6) dex requirement or 100 lvl. Socket them with Vellinque skulls (+200 physical damage each). In addition to that, this build benefits from blade pact(15).
Gear for spelltrigger: I personally use the glacial spike and haven't tried out meteor strike yet. Armor with +hp +focus is your choice. With enchats you'll need to get ~1000 str to hit crit damage cap then switch to dex (358-486) and put the rest of enchantments to focus.
Weapons: netherrealm shotgun (358-364 dex or 100 lvl) for 25% glacial spike proc and relatively low dps or tri-force catalyst (480-486 dex) for enormous dps and 20% glacial spike proc with the drawback being 5% to proc chaotic rift (random teleport). For glacial spike you'll need eyes of Aleera (5% to proc glacial spike each). To farm it, you need to complete robot part and three sisters quests.
Gear for DoT: armor with +hp +focus. All enchantments go into improving focus. Weapon - netherealm shotgun. Since this build is intended to go full focus without putting any points in dexterity, you'll get to use at 100 lvl only. Socketables: Zardon's skull with 3970 damage over 5 seconds each. Keep in mind that despite most of DoTs are marked as "x physical damage over y seconds" the game counts it as magic damage thus scaling it with character's focus.

One more thing - on level and fame cap you'll have 495 stat points and 132 skill points (including the first already invested into glaive throw/flame hammer/eviscerate/magma spear) at your disposal.

Hey tyguy,

If you're okay with not being 100% true to vanilla, you can download Rapid Respec which will allow you to rearrange your stat and skill points whenever you wish. Just google it.
