Synergies Mod
I'm completely new to the synergies mod, and i was wondering what the best class is for my playstyle. I much prefer to play up in your face tanky melee damagers, such as the tank engineer builds where. Higher your defensive stats, the higher your offensive stats, that sort of thing. What class would be best? Is the paladin any good even though its early stages? Or am I best off going with the engineer and going for the vanilla type builds?

Synergies will due to the extra abilities it bestows upon enemy monsters spawn really BIG groups of opponents. It tends to lag my machine a problem I dont have on vanilla. For that alone higher difficulties tend to be very deadly. If you like having a boss tripling upon death then this is for you :)

I was very successfull with an Eng build due to the run-and-AoE capabilities coupled with highz defensive and pets.

Going to have to clarify what u wrote as I dont fully understand, your sentences seem broken and not related to what im asking? I already decided i want to play synergies, I just want to know what class is the best for the "sit in the middle of mobs and take no damage" class.

yeah sorry I think my reply is kinda confusing (it seemed crystal clear to me when I wrote it...go figure)

Whatever class/build fullfills these 2 factors the best:

1) AoE damage + damage migitation
2) AoE damage + AoE control

Tanking builds tend to do best out there. Eng 2H builds also do well due to their high aplha strike potential and the pets they can bring out to soak up some damage/hits.

Its a good idea to build up a secondary mode of attack (embermage should have something else then pure spells for example) as many MoBs will have resists/immunities under Synergy.

The Engi is tanky and does substantial damage if you trait 2H weapons, but I find the Paladin class overall more enjoyable to play. Lots of buffs, damage and good mobility.
Be advised, the mobs on Synergies mod are stronger than those on vanilla, it's not impossible that you'll be killed even as Engineer with tank build. The goal of the Synergies mod is to increase the challenge and make the game harder and eliminate the "sit in the middle of mobs and take no damage" playstyle, but make the player plan his/her build, distribute skill/stat points with some thought, make use of the surroundings, kite, move about and pull out every last bit of potential from the character. The Paladin is the tankiest class of those Synergies mod adds. The Far East pack 1 adds 6 more classes, and the both the Ronin and the Warrior monk are quite tough and can soak up loads of damage. Far East pack is compatible with Synergies and adds lots of new gear, you should face no trouble with it.

Thank you all for the responses, and as for the overall goal of this, Im grouping as 4 and of the 4 i play with i tend to be the one who likes tanking, so I was wanting to give my party as much tank and utility as possible. I see sword and board Engineer probably matches that description best.

The other reason I wanted this was because I also despise the kiting playstyle that most characters that comes with the basic synergies mod comes with (as well as essentials that i downloaded) The only one who does was the paladin, but once again since it is underdeveloped I wanted to make sure it was fully viable.
