If I had to pick one, it would be this.
Build : Summoner Engineer, focusing on Spider Mines and the other support summons.
Playstyle : early on, play like a canoneer. Once your minions kill stuff reliably (around late act 2), stay behind, spam spider mines and all the other minion spells you have found (like summon skeleton).
Weapons : anything that reduces cast time. Mana leech can be good too to replenish mana more easily. Preferably Pistol or Wand so you can be 1h ranged. Early on, I would say just pick the cannon and invest 1 skill point in Blast Cannon, because the summons won't be enough, and Spider Mines is unlocked (and effective) near the end of Act 2.
Gear : survivability + stuff that increases minion damage.
Skills : something like this

Ect : usual stuff for hardcore : wear a shield, equip +health items and %damage reduction, farm Grell for Eyes for extra safety, enchant gear with Boris, don't go in traps, have an escape skill ready (like Onslaught), ...
