Usually changing from 32 to 64 bits requires nothing more than a rebuild of the game (...usually), that's why I thought it could still happen.
Typing from/playing on my Mac mini with an M1 right now!
But it is annoying that Steam doesn't recognize it as a functioning game. Same thing with Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, it runs fine but Steam warns you anyway.
I have just checked the binary of the GOG version of the game;
Meaning, just like Linux version, Mac version is 64 bit indeed. I am certain that aside from DRM, GOG and Steam versions are identical. As far as I am aware, Steam on Mac is also 64 bit, so that shouldn't cause any issue on Intel Macs. If you experience issues with Steam version on Mac, you can try to redeem GOG version, though that offer might be expired already;
