If you buy an old product from a garage sale, you are probably not going to find a valid warranty to go with it, and might not even find a company to send it to for repairs, if it breaks.
If you buy an old car that is no longer made by that company, you talk to other people that have that same car, or find parts from auto parts suppliers. You don't go screaming to the local news station that the make and model you bought has been ABANDONED BY THE CAR MANUFACTURER!
Luckily, here on Steam, and especially for this game, there are usually lots of players who have played, or are currently playing the game, who will do their best to assist you, because we love the game and want others to get to enjoy it as well.
Arc Games is the current owner of the Torchlight Franchise, but the older games in the series are "as is". They are no longer being developed, or modified (other than by the Steam modding community), or repaired. That is how it is with most of the old games on Steam.
Also, perhaps you are comparing this to how MMO's work. This is not an MMO, with a large company behind it, that has an incentive to keep modifying and updating the game to keep players and attract more players so they can continue to have a steady stream of income from the cash shop.
This is a standalone ARPG. It was very popular when it was released. A ton of us still love it, and we, the players and the modders, are the ones that keep the game alive. We will help you if we can. There are just a few issues that require the assistance of ARC games, but for most other issues, we are here to help you find solutions.
I had an issue a few months back with Tree of Savior and the game wouldn't even run past the game patcher client. I had to format my hard drive to get the game to work. If you must play this game and do not want to do further troubleshooting try backing up your data and then format your HDD + reinstall Windows/OS of choice.
I'd also like to mention that one person thought the issue might have something to do with Windows 10. I, and other players on the Steam Discussions pages, have pointed out that we are using Windows 10, and we have no problems playing the game.
this is an older game made by a now-defunct studio. overall this is not a buggy game and totally fit for sale as a legacy title in its current state. stop making controversy where there is none
I'm sure future players are mostly smart enough to figure out that an 8 year old non-AAA game is likely not actively supported anymore. What's your excuse?
But it's ok. You can stop hitting them now. I think they have understood. In particular, that comment you quoted (and replied out of context) was for the reddit link they posted earlier, which solves the issue they were having.
Hence the "for future players".
