Most of it is RNG based, but there are some that are unique to bosses or dungeons, for example only Grell can drop The Eye of Grell, and you can only get the minecraft swords in the minecraft dungeon.

legendaries are nearly impossible to get... got only one from a random champion. and tl3 is in early access dont judge too early.

The easiest way to get legendary items is to play NG+ and do Tarroch's Tomb. You don't need to do the 10th round to get legendaries, but they are more likely if you do up to the 8th or 9th round. I don't know if I'd do that dungeon on Hardcore, but on normal mode it's fun to see how far you can get. It's mostly the same pattern of enemies for each round, so you can plan ahead once you get familiar with it.

It would be the best place, if not for the fact they mostly drop nothing at all, likely by design so as not to clutter the fighting arena. I've never seen the chests drop a legendary either, though it might be possible.

The easiest way is gambling, but that's expensive and only works for the highest level ones.

But, but, I've gotten a bunch of legendaries from those Tarroch's Tomb chests! Of course, I've been addicted to that dungeon lately, so I run it frequently with a bunch of different characters.

They spit out plenty of uniques, but not legendaries.
HiFive Jul 16, 2020 @ 7:05am
Yes, lots of uniques, but I'm not dissapointed with the occasional legendary drop. Maybe because it's so much more rare outside of that dungeon. I have an Engineer that seems to do a good job getting legendaries. He even got one as a drop from an enemy in Tarroch's Tomb, instead of from the boxes. I think it's my Embermage that hasn't gotten any. I'm pretty sure my Outlander got a few. Usually the legendary drop is for a different character than the one I am currently playing, so I send it off to the one that can use it.

I just did a quick check of a bunch of my most recent characters. In the past 2 or 3 months, I have received at least 9 Legendary items. It helps to have a luck bonus of +20 on a high level (at or near 100) character. I've been playing normal mode to destress from the garbage going on in real life, so I'm just letting you know that I got these legendaries on normal mode characters. You don't have to be playing a Veteran or Elite character to get them.

legendaries start to drop after you hit lvl 49. 0,04% chance to drop from champions and bosses, 0,002% from usual enemies. funny thing is that the legendaries are named after classic and cult movies of the past.

Yes, difficulty doesn't affect drops apart from the extra gold on casual, but I've never seen a legendary from a chest, no matter where. They drop from normal mobs at a 1 in 50000 chance, or from champions at a 1 in 2500 chance. No chest calls those spawnclasses or invokes the Legendary unit type.

With all the champions in Tarroch's Tomb, it would have been the place to farm them, if not for the aforementioned deletion of mob drops. It does seem to "miss" a few items here and there, so there could be a chance to see a legendary there, but it would be unreliable at best.

Just for fun, I gave myself 60000% magic-finding Luck and did some Tomb runs. The enemies dropped one unique item and one Vendor Boon scroll. The chests yielded the customary number of uniques and skulls, but not a single legendary.

TL3 needs a lot of changes early access or not.
HiFive Jul 16, 2020 @ 7:01pm
Like I said, I have farmed at least 9 legendaries in the past 3 months - most in the past 1 1/2 months, and most of them from chests in Tarroch's Tomb, and one from an enemy drop in Tarroch's Tomb. I remember the enemy drop in Tarroch's Tomb because I was extremely surprised to get one up on the platform, and it was near the exit, so I had to be careful not to fall into the exit while I was fetching it. A few others were obtained from open world drops and maps. Years ago, I got some from the gambler in the Mapworks, but I'm not sure if I was using a mod when that happened.

You don't need a ton of Magic-Find luck, just at least +20 is all.

Also, being disabled, I play a lot of hours every day when I'm playing this game, so of course I'm going to find more stuff than most people.

My point was that between my normal 17% and the absurd 60017%, the results were the same as every time I've ever run it, so magic find doesn't appear to have any bearing on it. I've spent a fair bit of time in there myself in the past, and the total lack of legendaries makes me blink at the suggestion of farming them there is all. It could be a decent gold farm to fuel gambling for them though.

Well, this has been my experience: that my drops are much better when I equip +20 magic find, and I am more likely to get legendary drops, and more of the good set items, and unique items.

If you are only running Tarroch's Tomb 2 or 3 times you won't notice the difference. When I'm playing this game, I'm on it for most of the day, save for some breaks to do chores, eat, etc., and I'll be playing like that every day until I finally decide to switch to another game for a while.

Since I finally decided to give a serious effort to playing Tarroch's Tomb (and subsequently get hooked on it), I usually run the dungeon at least 12-20 times per day, while I'm also running many Mapworks maps and leveling other characters. That is how I know there is a definite difference when I get the magic-find stat up to +20. I have compared characters with lower magic-find to ones with higher magic-find, and I've seen an obvious difference.

I don't think anything above +20 is really very necessary, but when the magic-find is higher, I do notice even better drops. I think it primarily increases the number of magic items dropping, thus increasing the chance that you'll get a legendary. However, I have never had a character equipped with more than, say +35 magic-find, so I don't know if there is a noticeable difference when you get higher than that.

Also, I'm curious if you did at least 9 bowls with your uber-magic-find character. Doing the first 5 bowls will not usually give you much that's good.

OK, but this is kind of proving my point here. 12-20 runs per day for 1.5-3 months? So an average of 1080 runs. Which yielded one mob drop and 5-7 supposedly from chests? Doesn't sound like the ideal farming scenario.

If 20 luck is significant, why does completely shattering that threshold produce comparable results to every other run I've ever done? These are full clears I'm talking about.

Luck doesn't even upgrade magic items into legendary. Legendary has its own entry in the loot table. I did some additional testing in and out of Tarroch's, and the only noticeable difference in mob drops was slightly more uniques and significantly more Vendor Boon scrolls. I dropped one legendary from a mob but that's not enough to attribute it to the magic find. Still a fat zero legendaries from chests.
