Kid Friendly?
I'm looking for a game to play with my 10 year old. I only skimmed this but didn't see anything (gore-wise) that sets off my fatherly instincts to avoid it. My main worry is will the game be too hard for us both to play? he's used to minecraft, portal knights, and WoW just wondering is this game is more difficult the the cartoon-like graphics would imply?

At 10 years old I was playing Diablo 1 lol. In terms of blood you see splashes of red but nothing really concerning. In terms of difficulty it's adjustable - Casual mode can be beaten with the touchpad.

Basically I have to agree with previous post, there is nothing particularly gory in this game and casual difficulty is really really easy.

I will just add that if you want, you can download free demo on the store page and try the game out yourself.

May I applaud you for your efforts. I die a little inside when people throw their 7-y.o. a copy of Fallout and talk about on Reddit as if it is nothing, or a positive thing.

FWIW I was a rather sheltering parent pre-Facebook days, (though my kid was taught how to use the Internet before most adults of the time) and can't recall anything in this game that requires parental supervisison.

Thanks everyone I’ve decided to purchase two copies. Dive right in rather then try the demo. Appreciate the feedback.

Why care about gore in games? Gore is absolutely fine to 10 years old boy. We all grew up playing stuff like DOOM, Mortal Kombat etc. I've played ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ PUNISHER(which had like most ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and realistic ways of killing enemies back in time) when I was like what? 11 years old?
I will never understand why society cares about blood and gore in videogames when there's nudity content and drugs in videogames. In case if you are wondering: no there's no nudes or drugs in Torchlight 2. Game is absolutely fine but may be a bit too hard for modern day kids because of builds\stats and such but you can always just reduce difficulty to casual

You're assuming all children are the same. They are not. Parents have their reasons, whether you agree or not. It's probably a better discussion on a parenting forum.

Thanks Raubrey.

You can turn off blood setting in option too if needed.

There is gibbing in this game, but it can be disabled, and if you're worried about your kid enabling it, set settings.txt to read-only.

Torchlight has basic blood pools and red flying chunks-

-that can be turned off in settings-

-and it's quite limited when active.

Casual and Normal difficulties are so easy that most of us here don't bother with them which makes them good choices for a fun adventure without issues.

This game has clean dialog and some "humble" cleavage portrayed with respect while the "serious impending doom" factor is bordering between a slightly dark teen vampire and zombie episode and a cartoon kid superhero tv show where they save the world.

Overall one of the better family choices without focusing on being "kid's only" options among the Role, Loot, Dungeon and Hack-Slash game genres.

If nudity is bad for children, then maybe we should stop to breastfeed them, right?
It may traumatise them. :steammocking:

There's a difference between a baby and a 10 yo child :p

Breastfeeding is more of a food choice. ^_^

Society is just like these forums here; it's about individuals and we all have different goals for our entertainment and what we wish to focus on afterwards.

Hence a wonderful and diverse selection can be found here at the Steam store and elsewhere.

As far as kids go- well that's more to give their brain a chance to handle things when they are finally ready which can vary greatly.

It's important to recognize the difference between nudity and pornography as well, but a lot of folks struggle with that.
