How to solve 'firewall problem detected'

I have closed windows firewall and antivirus program, but it still doesn't work

It's a longstanding issue but aside from configuring ports etc. the info available on the wiki, I would add Torchlight 2 to the list of approved programs for your filewall, a fairly simple thing to do if running Windows Firewall.

None of this works for me. Added ports, added exe through firewall, turned firewall off, edited the txt file...nothing works. Still crashes due to "firewall problems detected". Very disappointing considering I just convinced 4 people to buy the game so we could play.

Do you have any other antivirus software that might also be needing special instructions for TL2?

Nope, but it turns out that the "firewall problem" message had nothing to do with the crashing/connecting. Guess that message really means nothing. It was a mod order issue.

1-Abra o Windows Defender Firewall, clique em configurações avançadas, Regras de entrada, e lá na direita Nova regra...Marque a opção programa e clique em avançar, agora procure onde voce instalou o seu torchlight, e selecione o torchlight2.exe da pasta de instalação, em seguida apenas avance, selecione todas as opções pra marcar e avance, e por fim renomeie a regra pra Torchlight 2 (não precisa de descrição) abra o jogo como administrador, crie ou conecte no servidor de seus amigos ! tmj

Guys I solved! for those who still want to play online or lan with someone, just follow these steps;

1-Open Windows Defender Firewall, click on advanced settings, Entry Rules, and there on the right New rule... Check the program option and click on advance, now look for where you installed your torchlight, and select the torchlight2.exe from the installation folder, then just go ahead, select all options to mark and advance, and finally rename the rule to Torchlight 2 (no description) open the game as administrator, create or connect to your friends' server ! Im still having the issue, after doing all the above. I even disabled firewall completely.

Still i can join some games, and can´t join some others. The red text is still displayed all-time.

Any ideas?

I've been fiddling with these settings for 2 hours before I managed to host a game that my friend could join.
All the following settings were on the host PC(I don't know the settings that the client had)
Firstly I started on creating the necessary ports on my router for the steam version of the game, you can check how to do that on google. That did not fix the issue alone.
I also searched on my windows firewall a bit, I've noticed that the game had an inbound and outbound rule for the modlauncher instead of the normal game. As soon as I added a new inbound and outbound rule for the torchlight2.exe my friend could join me. I don't know if the ports were necessary for me but I don't feel like deleting and adding them again to test it out :P
