Lucky Dice farming
Is there any way to reliably farm these? I want to farm a bunch for the magic find bonus. The "navigate the maze" Phase Beast Challenge in the Temple Steppes can give you a golden chest which I know can sometimes drop a Lucky Coin (which might be useful for gold farming) but can it drop a Lucky Die just as reliably? The secret rooms in the Wellspring or Watchweald temples can sometimes give you one but can you reliably rerun these for multiple dice?

The magic find surely doesn't work as you think it does. Because it's not really worth farming for.

Magic Find doesn't improve your chance to find legendaries, but instead it improves your chance to find magical items instead of normal items, which indirectly also improve your chance to find legendaries but not as much as how "Magic Find" would work in Diablo 2 for instance.

If you want to farm legendaries, a better way is to have a lot of gold find, and then spend them all in the gambler

As far as I can tell in my many years of playing Torchlight, the dice (and the gold coins that give you increased gold gathering) are completely random drops. The magic enchanters that show up in the landscape and in the dungeons are also random, but sometimes you will get a luck enchanter. So you can hope to find him as well. I think the dice can have an enchantment of 1% up to 5% luck chance. (It might even go up to 6% - I'm not sure.) I usually only install the 3% or higher ones.

Also, even though magic find may not help as much as you'd like with legendaries, it does help in finding rare gear, including rare sets. In Torchlight I the sets were too hard to get and I found the Unique items to be better, but in Torchlight II the Set Gear rules!

I never said I was looking to farm legendaries. I only care about uniques, including ones in sets. The lucky dice just seem to be the most convenient way to crank up MF bonuses for that. I know about Filip but I want the dice too.

From my anecdotal evidence, secret room chests tend to drop them often. I was farming grell eyes for my elite hardcore character and I get a lucky dice or coin every 2-3 trip (during which I go through the secret room in my loop). I must admit that I sell them so I can't say I'm 100% sure but the magic find boost they give doesn't seem to be tied to level and is instead random. I've gotten anywhere from +2% to +6% magic find

Lucky Dice can apparently provide anywhere from a 1 to 6 percent magic find bonus. I assumed the Wellspring/Watchweald secret rooms would provide a somewhat reliable source of them. I just wasn't sure how reliably. One every 2-3 trips is manageable given how fast you can speed through either temple.

Keep in mind that Uniques (in sets or not) have fixed attributes. The attributes on rare set items are random. Meaning that often the rare set pieces can outperform the uniques. I'm not talking about the benefits from having more than one piece in the set. I'm talking about the attributes listed above the set benefits. So a Regent chest can have +15 mana as the only additional attribute, and another Regent chest can have +20 armor and +20 mana, and 10 health stolen on hit, and so forth. I store my set pieces for future characters and always compare new ones to old ones to get the best stats. I store dice with 3 or higher magic find bonuses because having luck stats, in my experience, does give me a higher chance of getting rares and uniques.

secret rooms in the dungeons are your best bet to locate these gold and magic find gems. act1 is very reliable they have plenty of secret rooms in those first dungeons.

Thanks. In this case I'll look into farming them from the Wellspring.

Another source are the Monster Shrines however that's only if a King Crab appear(kill it quickly if it does!) and it decides to drop a Die or Coin. I do believe 3 Coins transmute to 1 Die(and vice-versa). However Secret Rooms are the best bet like people have said.

I've tried transmuting the coins and they just gave me random rares I don't want.

If you are looking for uniques, all you want is a "vendor boon scroll" and a lot of money.
Farming Lucky dices and then hoping for better drops looks like a good amount of time wasted

If you are playing the vanilla game without mods and want to transmute coins or lucky dice for upgraded ones, you must collect 3 of the same value. Collect 3 lucky dice with a value of 1% chance, and you will get a die of 2% chance. Collect 3 of 2% chance and get a die of 3% chance, etc. This is the only way to upgrade dice or coins.

EDIT on 9/27/2019: I recently started playing vanilla again, and the transmuter is no longer doing this for me. With 3 lucky dice of the same percent chance, I'm just getting random gems instead of the upgraded die. Don't know why it's now this way - if someone changed something, or if I was playing a mod before and thought I was playing vanilla or what. I'm sad that I can't upgrade dice and coins anymore, and I'm sorry for the apparent bad information I gave in the first paragraph. I can confirm someone else's statement that you are more likely to find dice and coins in the secret rooms of dungeons.

Paco: Vendor Boon is easier for getting uniques, but the rare sets can often be better because the extra (non-set) stats on rares are random. I like certain rare sets for their set stats, so I look for those and keep the ones that have really good random stats on them. The results are often a set that surpasses any unique set of the same level. This is because the non-set stats on unique items are always the same.

I do know about Vendor Boon Scrolls and they definitely are the fastest way to pick up high level gear. The only problem is that they're impossibly rare. Didn't know the dice needed to be the same level to transmute up though. I'll look into that though.
