If going Full Aegis Skills then always use a Shield with high Armor if available to convert into high Skill damage.
Otherwise just invest 206 Strength, 83 Dexterity (this is for some Critical Chance) and 206 Vitality so the level 105 Outercore Set can be worn without issue.
Remember to use Boris the Stat Enchanter to place more stats into Item pieces.
For elements just use Fire or Electric since the Engineer favors these elements naturally in their exclusive Sets.
Forcefield will be your best Skill so max invest it early.
Fire Shield scales with Focus however that can be supported by Boris as mentioned earlier.
Overload will provide some Crowd Control however it's worth waiting for Immobile Copter instead.
Shield Bash can be used to attack and Stun foes so that's good.
Aegis does not have any amazing damage Skills so choose a fast powerful one handed weapon and support that with a Shield, defensive and robot Skills.
I'd use both Shield Bash and Fire Bash. With enough focus they can make a viable offense. As said, the most important thing will be the shield's armor rating. Socket it with iron embers as well for more armor and therefore more damage. Best thing your weapon can contribute at that point is cast speed, so be on the lookout for that.
Tremor should be worthwhile too, not for damage, but for the debuffs.
