Do you happen to know what's the highest % for magic find that armor/trinkets can have?
Outlander seems to have more chances of it's own exclusive Sets carrying Magic Find.
Otherwise it is usually 1 or 2% sometimes 5 or 10%.
The Adventurer Tome Passive helps with this along with some Mapworks maps.
Oops! Correction: Please read steffire3's comment following. Only a max of 2 sockets is usually possible on the unmodded game.
I'm sad to say that the unmodded game only allows 2 sockets to be added and only 2 sockets total.
The item has to contain more than 2 sockets in order to be better than anything Jurick the Socketer can give.
Which means that it has to be Rare or better to have more than 2 sockets (only on Weapons or the Asphyx 2 piece armor Set).
Normally I'd say use http://tidbi.ru/eng/searchv2.php to search for uniques with magic-find, but they seem to be having an issue atm.
So I'm better off finding a set with MF set bonus, like Grell or Wildwood, add trinkets and a rare helmet and get 2 sockets on each and ideally lucky dices for maximal MF?
Searching on that site is a no-go atm. My 30 kb/s doesn't load anything beyond steam discussions.
Like I was saying, finding the "perfect" magic-finding gear will probably be more difficult than just finding the gear you really want anyway. I just throw Treasure Hunter passive on my pet and sometimes on my own character if there's nothing else I want and call it a day.
Uniques can be gambled for very successfully, and rare sets can be found on some town vendors if you routinely check their stock. Beyond that, I can only recommend learning how to find all the secret rooms.
My blessings to steffire3 and Adec for setting me straight.
I'll also add that 6% is probably the highest percentage you can get on a die. I've never seen one higher.
You don't necessarily have to buy out everything. There are some patterns to his pricing that can clue you into what kind of item it may be. Like a unique of a particular level has a few different prices it can be, but all are pretty close together. If one costs significantly more than the others at its level, it may be a legendary or it may have additional sockets.
There's no way to guarantee exactly what it will be but you can save some gold this way.
However here are the Exceptions:
- Asphyx Helmet (5 Sockets)
- Asphyx Gloves (5 Sockets)
- One unique Weapon/Shield of every Type (one handed = 4 Sockets, two handed = 5 Sockets)
- Blue 'Weapons' with two extra Sockets however without any other included stats (total 4 Sockets on onehanded and twohanded aswell)
- Green and Blue Two handed Weapons can have in general 3 Sockets and some specific two handed unique/legendary weapons also have 3
