Number of sockets on armor/trinkets?
So I looked up the maximum number of sockets on items, and all people speak about is "Oh, I found a purple weapon with 4 sockets in Act 1!", but no information on how many sockets armor pieces and trinkets can have.
is the maximum 2, or can they also have 4?

It depends on the item. So 2 and 3 slots mostly. I want to say that 4 is possible with weapon and chest pieces but I'm not sure that is right...

Two sockets on armor/trinkets. Only Asphyx set has more.

Thanks.
Do you happen to know what's the highest % for magic find that armor/trinkets can have?

Outlander seems to have more chances of it's own exclusive Sets carrying Magic Find.

Otherwise it is usually 1 or 2% sometimes 5 or 10%.

The Adventurer Tome Passive helps with this along with some Mapworks maps.

If you find a socketer in a dungeon, you can add more sockets. With added sockets your item can have a total of 4 or 5 sockets. I can't remember if un-modded games let you go up to 5. This applies to ANY item - armor, weapons, jewelry.

Oops! Correction: Please read steffire3's comment following. Only a max of 2 sockets is usually possible on the unmodded game.

I'm sad to say that the unmodded game only allows 2 sockets to be added and only 2 sockets total.

The item has to contain more than 2 sockets in order to be better than anything Jurick the Socketer can give.

Which means that it has to be Rare or better to have more than 2 sockets (only on Weapons or the Asphyx 2 piece armor Set).

For random rare items, up to 6% on helmets and 12% on trinkets, although these will be so rare that you will probably never see such an item drop.

Normally I'd say use http://tidbi.ru/eng/searchv2.php to search for uniques with magic-find, but they seem to be having an issue atm.

Oh, so only helmets and trinkets can have this attribute?
So I'm better off finding a set with MF set bonus, like Grell or Wildwood, add trinkets and a rare helmet and get 2 sockets on each and ideally lucky dices for maximal MF?

Searching on that site is a no-go atm. My 30 kb/s doesn't load anything beyond steam discussions.

Apart from uniques, yeah.

Like I was saying, finding the "perfect" magic-finding gear will probably be more difficult than just finding the gear you really want anyway. I just throw Treasure Hunter passive on my pet and sometimes on my own character if there's nothing else I want and call it a day.

Uniques can be gambled for very successfully, and rare sets can be found on some town vendors if you routinely check their stock. Beyond that, I can only recommend learning how to find all the secret rooms.

Well I've been playing mods too long already! This is the 4th computer I've put the game on and I never bother to port anything over from the old computers. I just start the game over spanking new as if I was a brand new player. So I went to an old computer (the only one of the batch that is still alive) and looked up a level 100 Engineer and you are correct! Only 2 sockets on her Dragonrift gear. I would have maxed her sockets long before she reached 100 so the 2 sockets must be the max. Also, in my stashes of high level gear (all rares and uniques), they only have 1 or 2 sockets. I didn't check every single character or stash but I didn't see anything with more than 2 sockets, so I've probably never come across anything like that in the unmodded game. The newer computer I'm currently playing on is the only one I've done the modded game on, so anything on that old computer would not have any modded effects.

My blessings to steffire3 and Adec for setting me straight.

I have a 6% magic finding die on my unmodded game. I have sometimes loaded a character with treasure hunter and some high percentage lucky dies to get better drops. If you can afford the gambler, he is really much better than the gambler on Torchlight I, and has a high chance for good items.

Does MF affect the gambler? Or just buy his inventory empty, get new cash, repeat?
HiFive Nov 29, 2017 @ 11:26am
I don't remember seeing a huge difference on the unmodded game, but I probably wasn't paying attention to how much MF I had on when I made my purchases. I tend to buy from the gambler only when I have a lot of gold and can afford to buy a large batch of stuff. However, sometimes I get real lucky and my first purchase will be what I'm looking for. I use the gambler when the game is being stingy and not giving me decent drops for a challenge coming up.

I'll also add that 6% is probably the highest percentage you can get on a die. I've never seen one higher.

I think it does, but his inventory generation already gives you a large bonus to it, so the additional effect from your gear won't be that much. He only shows up in town though, so feel free to swap gear if you wish.

You don't necessarily have to buy out everything. There are some patterns to his pricing that can clue you into what kind of item it may be. Like a unique of a particular level has a few different prices it can be, but all are pretty close together. If one costs significantly more than the others at its level, it may be a legendary or it may have additional sockets.

There's no way to guarantee exactly what it will be but you can save some gold this way.

Normally Items only can have up to 2 Sockets.
However here are the Exceptions:

- Asphyx Helmet (5 Sockets)
- Asphyx Gloves (5 Sockets)
- One unique Weapon/Shield of every Type (one handed = 4 Sockets, two handed = 5 Sockets)
- Blue 'Weapons' with two extra Sockets however without any other included stats (total 4 Sockets on onehanded and twohanded aswell)
- Green and Blue Two handed Weapons can have in general 3 Sockets and some specific two handed unique/legendary weapons also have 3
