Can't save my progress
I had this game some time ago and decided to give it another go. Played quite a bit on a new character yesterday and today found out that none of my progress is saved.

I have already linked my runic account with Steam - that's not the problem. I'm running it on Windows 10 (if that makes any difference) and I'm the sole account (administrator) on my computer. So WTF? How the hell do you save on this game? (And yes I can see the save button on the menu window but it doesn't seem to work).

I've also verified the files through Steam and looked at other responses here in the forums...(I found a guy who fixed his issue with this on his Linux box but since I dont use Linux it doesnt help me)

Can anyone help me out. I'd like to play this again.

Maybe check to see if your AV is blocking Torchlight.

Dumb question: Do you save by simply exiting the game, or do you also press the "save" button at the, I believe, the right bottom corner of the exit menu, before you exit?

I played this game eons ago and remember simply exiting the game should save the progress, but for some reason upon my return my first progress on a new char was not saved until I retried it with the "save" button before exiting. I've been using the "save" button now and it does save the progress. I'm not sure if you're running into the same problem as me, though, but hopefully it helps somewhat.

EDIT: nvm, it doesn't work for you too. I just read. Soz then this reply is a waste of of your time sorry.

Seeing you've tried verifying the game

Maybe try deleting the download cache via selecting the option of the same name in the steam setting -> downloads menu.

Or you can try go into C:\Users\User\Documents\My Games\Runic Games which is the default location to save the game settings and characters etc of the game, or your local equivalent. You make a copy of all the files inside somewhere else just in case you need to restore something later. And then you delete everything inside, restart Steam and restart the game with a fresh char to have a look. CAUTION: (You might need to verify the game cache after doing the delete or else you might run into startup errors)

But idk.

I was able to resolve it by ensuring the doc folder was not allowing read only - where the saves are kept. After I did that everything I saved worked fine. Thanks for the tips though!
