It does support LAN, however. So if you have two computers you can hack and slash away!
Torchlight 1 and 2 does not support "Split Screen".
However it does fulfill the official requirement of "Local Co-op" because of "LAN".

I'm sad to say that the definition of this term meaning Split Screen is slowly fading away towards LAN [the need to buy the game for each device] equals money for companies.
Some games have this but the term definition for it will probably need to be a more literal "2+ on 1 screen multiplayer" or "Split Screen Multiplayer".
And that goes for users and devs.
